Proved the bush-haters wrong yet again.
I wonder if they will regret their claim that the surge will just kill more soldiers?
I doubt it.

They'll deny making it while simultaneously claiming that the surge has aggravated things and is causing more military AND civilian deaths.

You guys need to stop thinking that people, like me, who think Bush is by far the most unscrupulous, ignorant and stupid president ever want to see us fail. This is GOOD news IF IT CAN BE SUSTAINED. I want peace remember. But let us wait and see. We have along way to go.
Of course this does not excuse the screw up's along the way. Abu Graib, sadistic torture, complete lack of respect for the ARABS, Racism against said ARABS etc.

Paul - you can speak of racism against arabs and the "most horrific torture at abu graib" till the cows come home. but any rational human being knows that having underwear put on your head, and a leash around the neck is not torture. humiliation, yes, but not torture.

and the race card... thats ridiculously over played. war is hell, and it always brings up race. we're not fighting them over race. we're fighting them over their ideology. as in everywar, we pick on their race. just like the japs in WWII. of course now we're their friends, but when you are at war.... race is not the subject matter. get off of it.

and i really don't think you care about peace, or the soliders fighting this war, or the haji's fighting their war. you care about the activism. it makes you feel important, and that you have a mission in life. it helps you sleep at night. and so you hang out on websites, eagerly awaiting the next post so you can counter it with your self indulgent, emotionally charged response.

How many Arab friends have you had Chad? Bet not one. You probably were brought up to hate them. This little fiasco has simply allowed you in the military to actually take out your anger and frustration with your poor results in the private sector work force. You hate people like Bill Clinton because he puts you behind diplomacy which you guys hate because basically you be sitting around some crappy barracks at an underfunded base in Bum Fuck America. Like in the 1990's.
The reality is you are denegrating the US by absolving the Lyddie England scum who are quite prevelant in your glorious military. Much Much worse happened at Abu Graib than we know. No torture. How bout an Iraqi doing that to your father? Please Just discomfort . OK Rumsfeld.
People like you who condone torture have sold your and the US integrity down the river. I see your the kind of guy who would justify any action as long as "its for God, America and Apple Pie" . The WW2 generation and this group are very far apart . Trust me on that
Your a tool for the corporate American political system that cares little for you when sending you and even less when your home (see Walter Reed). Though I doubt you have ever run a business or made payroll or done anything domestically.
Also don't presume to know what I do. Believe me you couldn't do my job.
By the way I have supreme self confidence. I spend not even a tenth of my time of this issue.

War is the ONLY way to eliminate crazy people who have total control over their country, and would love nothing more than to see every American dead.

When you look at the data released by the DoD, more than 20 soldiers died from the 1st to the 13th of March alone. Add another ~30 for the period form February 13th till the end of that month. Those are the hostile deaths only. Here's the link to icasualties, and each death mentioned is linked to the press release from the DoD. Even if you just take the death in Baghdad the numbers don't look right. If they are, however, this is good news.

Hey paul, are you aware that without this war Saddam and his sons would be raping, torturing, and killing men, women and children for the next 50+ years? You claim to want peace and don't aprove of torture. Do you have any sympathy for the millions of victims under Saddams reign.
What would you have done to stop him? Diplomacy and sanctions are like the UN, they don't get results.

Paul, judging from my own experience, I think the people who were brought up to hate a race are in a clear minority.

But I agree with you that it is likely that what we have seen on photos, which to me alrady show torture, might be just the tip of the iceberg. We know that water boarding is being used, but Cheney's own admittance. Now some people here don't count water boarding as torture because it supposedly doesn't leave any permanent physical damage, but this is based on a definition of torture that no one in his right mind uses and possibly is just being brought up to justify what is being done.

I think that is a bit unfair Paul, first off there are idiots in the US military, just like any military in the world, there are going to be some sadistic, immature and/or irresponsible people. I wonder if you think things like abu graib and torture or killings didn't go on in world war 2? War is not pretty and you can only sugar coat it so much. Now I am not saying I condone any of that action, I am joining in a few months and I will be an infantry officer, and I will keep my men in line. But to think there is some directive from Bush to abuse detainees is ridiculous. At the same time these are terrorists we are dealing with, they murder small children and women indiscriminantly, no matter what we do we don't come close to the crimes they commit. You would rather us be gentle with these guys and not interrogate them, you would probably cite the Geneva convention. Let me tell you about the Geneva convention, in order to be protected by it you must A) be a soldier of a signatory nation and B) be in uniform and display your weapons outwardly. Concealing weapons or carrying on operations out of uniform makes you a spy. In WWII we would have captured them, tortured them, then shot them. So why not now?

Hey Paul,

How about you and your Ted Kennedyesque friends take America's side for once in your pathetic lives? Isn't it enough for you people that we had a commie...excuse me, "democratic" takeover of Congress. When I go off to Quantico for OCS in the near future, I don't want to have a government hostile to my cause, as Congress under the Pelosi/Murtha reign of terror clearly is now. A military withdrawal would be nothing short of a disaster, and we'd have to go back in within 20 years (if we're still a country that is). Iran, Syria, and Russia must also be taught a lesson too, lest we not want to win.

"The reality is you are denegrating the US by absolving the Lyddie England scum who are quite prevelant in your glorious military."

Paul,

Now who was it you said was full of hate? Was america hateful of white people when we fought the germans and italians? What is the liberal excuse? racism against the japanese. Like WW2, many soldiers today fight alongside people of the race of our enemies. We have many arab and even iraqi soldiers serving in our military today and dont forget the soldiers in the current Iraqi military that we are training.

And di we not supply arms to the iraqis in their fight against their persian neigbors in the 80's? or how about osam and friends and the mujahideen against the soviets(white people again)

When you shout racism based on your own negative perceptions of people, you cast doubt on who the actual racists are! I t makes me think you hate white people. Even if you are white, you are still a racist by espousing such things.

Dont confuse arabism with islamism. most muslims are non arab. I myself have only 2 muslim friends and one arab friend. That arab friend is lebanese and contends that she is ashamed to be an arab because of terrorism. My opinion of arabs hasnt changed though because I do know many that are proud of their cultural heritage but reject this craziness that has damaged their image.

Your first mistake in your rantings is that you emulate the terrorists when you look at the US as white, thereby, pitting other races against them. Sadly, the ratio of arabs to other races is general lower in the arab world than it is in america.

Take into account the abuses perpetrated against minorities in sudan, somalia and north africa, one could presume that it is the arabs who are the racists! but then again I would be guilty of the same poor reasoning as you if i made such a suggestion!

“The reality is you are denegrating the US by absolving the Lyddie England scum who are quite prevelant in your glorious military.”

And di we not supply arms to the iraqis in their fight against their persian neigbors in the 80’s? or how about osam and friends and the mujahideen against the soviets(white people again)
