Looking at area near/at 34th St. Bloomberg has issued a statement 'unverified threat' in response to increased internet chatter or some internet post, I don't know which one. Checking vehicles at checkpoints in Lower Manhattan and other routes of entry into that area. Waiting to hear from someone there. Will post more as I get it. CNN has run a breaking news banner on it, but the lid is a little tight on this, and I guess that's fine. Betting if there is a device and it's located, we will not hear much about it.... About a year ago my brother was standing on a train platform at Suburban Station in Center City Philadelphia. It's an underground five track wide station. Evening rush hour and everyone's waiting for the train and then as my brother described it, 'it was like they just appeared' there was this SWAT team on the platform he was on. Dead silence, hands at everyone's sides and the SWAT team started calmly walking around as though they were looking for something. Then they found "it". The radiological sensors that must be tiny little things mounted wherever had gone off. Obviously silently in an office somewhere. It turned out to be an x-ray technician's radiation exposure badge. Never mind. Then the SWAT team quietly disappeared as quietly as they had appeared. Dam, those things are sensitive. The amount of lead that would have to be used to conceal radiation from those sensors would weigh so much the tires of the transporting vehicles would explode from the weight. I'm not a radiation expert but I think it's pretty difficult to move radioactive material around. Even these suitcase nukes we've heard about need maintenance and some say that the terrorists don't have enough nuclear knowhow to maintain enough to do that much damage. I hope. Right now cell phone psychoes, blasting headsets and kid's beeping toys are the most annoying things on the trains. I'm still going up to NYC next month for the demonstration. I'm sure New York City is all over this. I started using ear plugs when going to NY so I didn't have to spend the hour listening to the annoying sounds but I do take them out before we go under the Hudson, just in case, I want to hear it if the train blows up.
