Al Qaeda Thwarted In Assasination Attempt On Diyala Intelligence Chief
Diala, Sept 15, (VOI) – A senior official in Diala’s security forces survived an assassination attempt in central Baaquba, which killed or injured five of his bodyguards, an official security source from Baaquba police said on Saturday.
“An armed group of Al Qaeda terrorist attacked on Saturday noon the car of the head of Diala’s intelligence agency, Col. Adel Abdul Kareem, claiming the lives of two of his security guards and injuring three others,” the source, who requested his name not be mentioned, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
“The colonel did not receive any injury,” the source added, giving no information about casualties to the attackers.
Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, is located 57 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
