Buzz Aldrin Admires Astronut’s Diaper Plan - “It’s All Downhill From The Moon”
NEW YORK (AP) - Buzz Aldrin said a former astronaut charged with attempted kidnapping should be “admired” for wearing diapers so she wouldn’t have to take bathroom breaks when she traveled cross-country to confront a romantic rival, according to a published report.
Lisa Nowak was arrested in February after police said the married mother of three had driven nearly 1,000 miles from Houston to Orlando, using diapers to avoid taking breaks.
“I think Nowak should be admired for traveling across the country at night and not getting out of her car to put in gas or go to the restroom,” Aldrin said in an interview published on Time magazine’s Web site. “It is not excusable, but it is understandable for an achiever to fall into a trap.”
Aldrin, the second man to step on the moon, has said he became depressed and had problems with alcohol after returning to Earth. He has spoken of the difficulties of astronauts readjusting to life outside the space program. “Often, it’s all downhill from the moon.”
“Astronauts are not superhuman,” he told the magazine.
Nowak, 44, pleaded not guilty to attempted kidnapping, battery and burglary with assault. She is pursuing a temporary insanity defense, according to court documents. Her attorney has called the allegation she wore diapers “the biggest lie in this preposterous tale.”

There are microbes in space that are infecting our astronauts. Just ask Ron Paul, he’ll tell you all about it.
September 9th, 2007 at 7:57 pmThis is, to put it mildly, an eccentric analysis of this tragic and deadly serious case.
Ms. Nowak’s well-accomplished attorney has more recently climbed down from the “she didn’t do what they said she did” position to “she did what they said she did because she was crazy.” Her case is teetering on the edge of the volcano’s rim.
She needs to plea to some lesser felony for probation with in-patient mental health treatment, anything to avoid the ~6 years state prison that wd be the presumptive minimum on these charges.
I’m a defense attorney here in FL, I can assure you this is no joke. She cd get LIFE (no parole) on one count alone.
September 9th, 2007 at 8:03 pmShe just got a sponsorship deal with depends diapers.
“Dependable Astronuts Depend on Depends” is the tagline

Thanks, Buzz, I had no idea.
September 9th, 2007 at 8:27 pm“I ever tell you about that time I was on the moon…?”
“Yea Buzz a million times”
September 9th, 2007 at 8:35 pmCome on, guys!
September 9th, 2007 at 8:41 pmI love Buzz!
He admits that astronauts are very human, but these people are heroes, just the same….
obviously this woman was crazed by love and hormones.
She flipped out, but I don’t think it had much to do with the health of the space program.
(Do we really need women doing this anyway?)
I wasn’t really picking on Buzz, I was just exploiting the obvious comedy in the statement. I appreciated its deeper meaning.
September 9th, 2007 at 8:53 pmSame here. I bet after walking on the moon, coming back and putting your feet on Earth and doing ho-hum stuff has gotta make you reach for the bottle. You know you’ve peaked.
September 9th, 2007 at 11:00 pmBuzz has gone from hero to zero in my book. And the astronut of which he speaks. I’m fucking tired of all her excuses. If she was as screwed up in the head that she has laid claim to be, how the fuck did her unstability as a human being not get detected by NASA?
I say bullshit. She did the crime. Let her do the time.
Alas poor Buzz, we knew you well….
Is Dr Phil in the house? (sarcasm intended)
September 10th, 2007 at 12:36 amhas this guy lost his mind…..we might need to look deeper into the background of astronauts even after they return from space, because i think this guy still think he is in space
September 10th, 2007 at 10:08 amSo, let me get this straight…Mr. Aldrin is of the opinion that psychotic OC behavior is to be admired because it denotes that a person is driven? Since when? That is the mentality behind every extreme fundamentalist’s actions, and last time I checked, the good ol’ US of A does not admire that so much. Methinks Mr. Aldrin’s common sense never made it back from the moon.

That’s gotta be one of the weirdest things I’ve ever heard. Wonder how many times Buzz has worn his diapers cross-country, simulating space travel…
