Army Clears Village Of Al Qaeda
Diala, Oct 2, (VOI)- Iraqi and U.S. forces detained 18 Al Qaeda gunmen in a security crackdown in Diala, central Iraq, while Iraqi army troops managed to free three captives in the province, a police source said on Tuesday.
“An Iraqi and U.S. combined force waged, on Monday afternoon, a campaign of search and detention throughout al-Nida village of Mindli district, arresting 18 Al Qaeda gunmen,” the source, who asked not to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
The source added “the force also confiscated large quantities of arms and ammunitions during the operation.”
Meanwhile, the same source told VOI that a force from the Iraqi army’s 5th Division managed, Monday evening, to free three Al Qaeda captives in Baaquba city.
Baaquba, capital city of Diala province, is 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
