Key al-Qaeda leader arrested
Baaquba, Oct 3, (VOI)- A joint force of Iraqi police and army personnel arrested five gunmen, including a key al-Qaeda leader in Khalis, while 13 persons were wounded in a blast east of Baaquba, a police source said on Wednesday.
“Joint police-army forces arrested five gunmen, including a key al-Qaeda leader, during a military operation waged since Tuesday morning and still underway in al-Hashemiyat village in Khalis district, north of Baaquba,” the Leader of Diala operations General Abdul Karim al-Rubaei told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
“Al-Hashimiyat, Hadid and al-Aswad villages named Afghan villages, because of the spread of Afghan fighters among al-Qaeda in Iraq,” according to security sources.
Meanwhile, the general said that “13 persons were wounded in a bomb blast on Tuesday night near a popular cafe in Joulaa in Khaneqeen district, east of Baaquba.”
“The wounded rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment,” he noted.
Khaneqeen is located 170 km east of Baghdad.
Baaquba, capital city of Diala, has been a scene of a large military operation, dubbed Operation Arrowhead Ripper, with the participation of over 10,000 Iraqi and U.S. troops in a hunt for gunmen in the area.
Baaquba is 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Sounds like another reason to go after AQ and the Taliban in Pakistan. Otherwise we’re just playing whack-a-mole again. So while Musharaff is fucking the dog, the West needs to go fuck up the Taliban, MMA and AQ. Letting these irhabis slide, is only going to get more westerners and innocent Muslims killed. Let’s do this now…and not have to come back in a couple of years when Pakistan becomes the new Afghanistan only with nuclear weapons, this time around.
JADAMs are a whole lot better than tactical nukes. But in any case, that new battlespace will need to be entered.
