They arrested 7 people including a Police Lieutenant believed to be involved in the recent Camp Victory mortar attack which killed 2 and wounded another 38 Coalition Forces.

Baghdad, Oct 11- Early on Thursday a U.S. force raided the headquarters of a police precinct in al-Bayaa neighborhood in western Baghdad and arrested seven policemen, while media reports asserted that two U.S. soldiers were killed and 38 injured in an indirect fire attack on a major U.S. military base in Baghdad overnight, a police source said.

“U.S. forces, backed by helicopters, raided at dawn a police precinct in al-Bayaa neighborhood in western Baghdad, where they arrested Lieutenant Dureid Abd el-Hussein and six policemen,” the source told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

“The force confiscated a police vehicle and damaged some properties,” he added. “The main reason for arresting the officer was his suspected involvement in the attack on the U.S. Camp Victory military base near the Baghdad International Airport,” he explained.

A police source had earlier said that unidentified gunmen attacked the U.S. Camp Victory military base near the Baghdad International Airport overnight in Sahet Abbas Bin Fernas and 12 mortar shells hit the base.

The BBC quoted a Western security contractor at the Camp Victory military base as saying he heard nine mortar rounds being fired and four blasts within the base’s perimeter after dusk on Wednesday.

No word was available from the U.S. army on the incident.
