But, if you’re going to impose harsher penalties when the victim and perp have different races/genders/sexual orientation, you have to apply it across the board. There should be no such thing as a protected class. Start applying the rules differently based on an accident of birth, and society will break down into competing tribes, just like most of the planet.

Just so you know i asked a black friend, who is incidentally from baltimore and and knows the bus in question to be a very dangerous bus, what the term cracker refers to and i was surprised that it doesnt refer to saltines. He said it refers to slave traders who used to “crack” whips at the slaves.

either way it is meant to paint white people as slave masters, is demeaning and derogatory and should be categorized as race baiting. this is obviously a hatecrime, but because they are juveniles the pc croud and jesse jackson et al will likely defend these kids as the by product of a racist society that have led them to hate their slave masters: in othe words, its not their fault.

So should it be viewed the same way? Most definately. Racism is racism and should be seen and treated as such no matter which race the victim is.

Will it happen this way? Most likely not. Who knows, perhaps we don’t push as hard as others in cases like this.

for the record i too believe that hate crimes are stupid. but since we have them, it should be considered in this case. if it isnt then i guess that blacks feel that they need special rights to protect themselves cause they dont feel equal to the whites.

Four teenage black youths (16, 17, 18, 19 years old) beat Zachary Sowers, a 28 year old white man into a coma last June. There was a sentence handed down in that case yesterday where one of the attackers got 40 years. The idiot kid stomped the man into a coma after he was down and out. Sowers remains in a coma after he was beaten just steps away from his Patterson Park home by Trayvon Ramos.

The term “cracker” did not originate with the “cracking” of overseers’ whips. It came from the process of the cracking corn as a means of preserving it and for creating beer for ’shine by the second wave of Scots-Irish who had no land to take but the remote mountain land of the Appalachians in the 18th and early 19th centuries. Poor whites of the hills were referred to as “crackers,” as opposed to the “white trash” of the more settled areas of the south. To be called a cracker was to be deemed poor and ignorant.
