Bombing Baghdad’s Liquor Stores

A man is publicly flogged in Iran for…drinking alcohol.
BAGHDAD: Homemade bombs hit two Baghdad liquor stores early Thursday, and attacks in several other parts of the city killed two people and wounded at least seven others. Eleven more deaths were reported from attacks outside Baghdad, and 19 bodies were found in Baghdad and elsewhere.

Liquor stores are frequent targets of bombings and other violence by Islamic militants seeking to end the sale of alcohol here. The two bombings occurred within moments of each other, shortly after 6 a.m. The police said they had defused another bomb placed near a third liquor store.

Believe me when I say this: that liquor store has a better selection than any one I have seen here in India.
Check it out, they have Jack Daniels! I’ve been here too long…
December 14th, 2007 at 11:39 amHey! Thats alcohol abuse!
December 14th, 2007 at 12:49 pm180 lashes?!!! This goes beyond medieval. Even in the 18th century, the typical punishment for drunkenness in the navy was only a dozen lashes. And I thought His Majesty’s Navy was strict about things.
These people take Puritan to an insane level. I’d be interested to know if any of those guys survived their punishments. But knowing Islamic justice, I’m guessing not.
December 14th, 2007 at 1:44 pmFreaking savages. Plus, they are driven to drink having to live in a stone-age backward dump like Iran.
December 14th, 2007 at 2:24 pmAnd this is why i’m going to drink tonight….for no other reason than because I can.
December 14th, 2007 at 2:59 pmTed B - I may have missed a previous post, but why are you living in India - just curious - Do you live in a large or small city? What is it like? I am sorry if I am being nosey!
December 14th, 2007 at 3:07 pmSome have argued that the discovery or invention of beer was the basis for the formation of agrarian societies what we now call civilization, does this mean that Islam is the end of civilization. I hear they travel i tribal groups. The struggle between the nomadic peoples and civilized people continues.
December 14th, 2007 at 4:11 pmThe people that run the liquor stores in Iraq are mostly Christians. No doubt the same is true in Iran. Seems like freedom only exists in societies wgere Christianity is present. Where moon-god worship exists, there is only facism and death.
What we’re seeing here is a modern-day revival of Nazism with a “false religious component”.
Incidently, I’m drinking a Beck’s dark at the moment. Try that shit on me Iraniacs…and watch how fast I send you to hell.
Skoal y’all.
