Coulter On The True Uniter Of The Republican Party

I know we’ve heard a lot of McCain bashing lately, especially from Ann, but in this article I think she spells out quite clearly the points she and others have been driving home as of late…

Nominating McCain is the gesture of a desperate party.

Republicans are so shell-shocked and demoralized by the success of the Bush Derangement Syndrome, they think they can fool the voters by nominating an open-borders, anti-tax cut, anti-free speech, global-warming hysteric, pro-human experimentation “Republican.” Which is to say, a Democrat.

As the expression goes, given a choice between a Democrat and a Democrat, voters will always choose the Democrat. The only question remaining is: Hillary or Obama?

On the litmus test issues of our time, only partially excluding Iraq, McCain is a liberal.

– He excoriated Samuel Alito as too “conservative.”

– He promoted amnesty for 20 million illegal immigrants.

– He abridged citizens’ free speech (in favor of the media) with McCain-Feingold.

– He hysterically opposes waterboarding terrorists and wants to shut down Guantanamo.

Can I take a breath now?

– He denounced the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

– He opposes ANWR and supports the global warming cult, even posturing with fellow mountebank Arnold Schwarzenegger in front of solar panels.

The only site that would have been more appropriate for Schwarzenegger in endorsing McCain would have been in front of an abortion clinic.

Although McCain has the minimum pro-life record demanded by the voters of Arizona, in 2006, McCain voted in favor of using taxpayer funds to harvest stem cells from human embryos. He opposes a constitutional amendment to protect human life. And he frets that if Roe v. Wade were overruled, women’s lives would be “endangered.” This is the same John McCain who chides Mitt Romney today for “flip-flopping” on abortion. At least Romney flips and stays there.

Of course the most important issue for pro-lifers is the Supreme Court. As long as Roe v. Wade is the law of the land, it doesn’t matter how many hearts and minds we’ve changed. So it’s not insignificant that McCain has called Justice Samuel Alito too conservative.

We ended up with David Hackett Souter when a Republican president was actually looking for an Alito. Imagine how bad it will be when the “Republican” president isn’t even trying.

McCain uses the boilerplate language of all Republicans in saying he will appoint “strict constructionists.” This is supposed to end all discussion of the courts. But if he’s picking strict constructionists, he will have to appoint judges who will commit to overturning McCain-Feingold.

That could be our litmus test: Will you hold President McCain’s signature legislation restricting speech unconstitutional?

In 2004, McCain criticized the federal marriage amendment, saying, it was “antithetical in every way to the core philosophy of Republicans.” Really? Preventing the redefinition of a 10,000-year-old institution — marriage, that is, not John McCain — is part of the core philosophy of being a Republican? I had no idea.

I’m not a lawyer — oh wait, yes, I am — but Republicans were proposing to amend the Constitution, a process the Constitution specifically describes.

It’s like saying it’s antithetical to the core philosophy of Republicans to require presidents to be at least 35 years old. It’s in the Constitution! And Republicans — other than the ones who voted for McCain-Feingold — support the Constitution. You might say it’s part of our core philosophy.

Of course, back in 2004, McCain was considering running on a presidential ticket with John Kerry. Realizing that this would not help his chances to run as a Republican in 2008, when he would be a mere 120 years old, McCain quickly withdrew his interest in being on Kerry’s ticket.

But he defended Kerry from the Bush campaign’s suggestion that Kerry was not tip-top on national security, saying on the “Today” show: “No, I do not believe that he is, quote, weak on defense.” So that was helpful.

McCain also explained to an admiring press corps why he wouldn’t want to be anyone’s vice president, not even a national defense champion like Kerry, citing the meager constitutional duties of the vice president as: (1) to assume the presidency if the president is incapacitated and (2) “to break a tie vote in the Senate.” (At which point several members of the fawning horde were heard to remark, “What is this ‘Constitution’ you speak of, Senator?”)

But McCain conveniently forgot the second of these constitutional duties just a year later when Vice President Cheney was required “to break a tie vote in the Senate” on a matter of utmost importance to liberals: federal judges.

Just one year after McCain had correctly identified one of two jobs of the vice president, he was indignant that a Republican vice president might actually exercise one of them. Better to let a gaggle of 14 Senate malcontents pick the president’s judges for him.

As part of the “Gang of 14,” McCain hysterically opposed allowing the vice president to break a tie on judicial nominations. Following the Constitution with regard to the role of the vice president, McCain said, “would be a terrible precedent.” Yes, if members of Congress actually read the Constitution, they might realize McCain-Feingold is unconstitutional.

If Hillary is elected president, we’ll have a four-year disaster, with Republicans ferociously opposing her, followed by Republicans zooming back into power, as we did in 1980 and 1994, and 2000. (I also predict more Oval Office incidents with female interns.)

If McCain is elected president, we’ll have a four-year disaster, with the Republicans in Congress co-opted by “our” president, followed by 30 years of Democratic rule.

There’s your choice, America.

WTF are you into Bash? That’s one weird ass photo. If you want to associate a photo with Ann Coulter why don’t you choose something like this:

OK she don’t like Captain Queeg. Neither does a whole lot of Republicans. We’re stuck with Cpt. Queeg…unless Romney can pull a rabbit out of his hat.

McCain is a troubling little dude…He didn’t even get 50% of the vote in his home state. Yesterdays outcome would’ve been a lot different if Huckaboob droped out…

Mitt Romney should run on a third ticket. with Fred Thompson as VP

  4. drillanwr

    Come on, Bash!

    Yet, MORE Abu Grabass pictures?!?!???

And here I thought we’d seen them ALL … sheesh!

Just look at poor hadji there …

  5. Ang

For the first time since I have been old enough to vote I am looking closely at third party candidates. If my choices are McCain or Hillary/Obama I don’t even want to vote. and I have never not voted. Sad to say though.. if it comes down to McCain/Obama.. I have to go with Obama.. he is less scary.

Our problem is not that Huckabee didn’t throw for Mitt it’s that McCain was even able to run as a Republican!
At the carnival (and this is certainly a circus) the signs read “You must be this tall to take this ride” so where is the Republican litmus test? and who the hell is voting for this fool?
Stop the BS about Huckabee the evangelical spoiler, he’s 5 times the conservative by record than either of his opponents.
It’s McStain that has no right to run on this ticket and proof of that will be when he picks Lieberman for his running mate! Then who you gonna blame?

If Mitt had Huck’s delegates, he’d still be short wouldn’t he?
A VOTE FOR McCAIN IS A VOTE FOR THE NEW LIBERAL REPUBLICAN PARTY!

So I Googled Dominatrix and liked this one…in her hand, is the anti-dote…

  9. Ang

Not a Obama supporter at all. But if it comes down to him or McCain.. he scares me a whole lot less than than Mccain. At least he admits he is a liberal dem.

  10. danielle

This is scary. I’m starting to like McCain less and less, especially since he often criticizes Bush and Cheney. Pfft. I hope Romney can pull off a miracle.

  11. franchie

    it’s ok, “she” looks better there ;

on the other pics, she’s got weird knees, and something tells me that she doesn’t eat at her real needs

    @ korndawg

You could have not said it any better. Mitt has the funds he should do it. He did not lose buy a lot in the states that McCain won. I think he should do it. And if he can talk ole Fred into running with him that would be the icing on the cake for me. I know it is a dream, but right now that is all I have, because I am with Ann, I will not vote for McCain period!!!! Let the dems rule and have the disaster laid at their feet. Just because you have an R behind your name, does not make you a Republican, it is your actions. McCain is no Republican or Conservative.

  13. BILL

I still can’t believe that you so called smart conservatives are still dreaming about a flip flopping liberal in Mitt the Unfit to be president! How the hell do you people think that he got elected in one of the most liberal states in America??!! BEING A LIBERAL DUH!!

You have brain damage don’t you. Bad head injury maybe? Perhaps to much dope? McCain is an admitted moron when it comes to economics. Romney single handledly turned around the Salt Lake city olympics and he has successfully ran several corporations. When was the last time McCain got a payroll check from someone other than the US Treasury Dept.? I’ll help you out, never. The future collapse of our economy under the weight of entitlements is becoming just as serious a threat as AQ. The true national debt when all the entitlements are figured in is somewhere on the order of 65 Trillion. Yes thats Trillion. McCain has no idea what to do about it and I don’t give a shit that Kemp has endorsed him. Kemp is part of the problem.

What do suppose McAmnesty will do regarding the border and the 30 million illegal aliens? I know, he is now saying he “gets it” and he build a fence. How do you know when John McCain is lying? When his lips are moving. McCain isn’t going to do jack shit about the border because he has a different agenda and he’s lying about it. He will say anything to get elected and he is crazy. I truly beleive that in his mind he thinks he is owed the White House because he spent 7 years in the Hanoi Hilton. Well I sick and tired of hearing about his time in Vietnam. There were 52000 men who never got to come home, period. And there are thousands of other who came home without body parts and other who spent just as much time in POW camps and on top of all that John McCain TURNED HIS BACK ON THE POW’S LEFT BEHIND!!!!!! HE DIDN’T DO JACK SQUAT TO GET THEM BACK!!!!!

John McCain is a different shade of John Kerry. Oh and one more thing, go read Jack Wheelers column, you’re probably to illinformed to even know who that is though so I included the link

  15. Professor Bill

Oh one more thing, you call Mitt unfit, well I we need to refer to JM as John McCrazy. Because he is certifiable.

  16. Wendy

He is not as liberal as McCain. I think any Republican or Conservative considering him is a fucking idiot. I was living in Boston when Mitt was elected into office. He was not that liberal!!!!! He just had an all liberal congress that he would veto shit and they had enough votes to over ride him to pass their liberal agenda!! I would take Mitt over McCain anyday!

  17. Dan (The Infidel)

    @Bash

Coulter a dominatrix? Nah. That’s a fit description for Hilda but not the Coultermeister.

I see her more as Infantry-girl: Leading from the front as per usual, with an M-16 in one hand and her other hand exhorting the troops to “follow me”.

While I fully understand the angst of Conservatives in their policy opposition to John McCain blunders like Illegal immigration, Conservatives are beginning to amaze me in their inability to see the larger picture.

While I also disagree with McCain on a dozen issues or so, the alternative is not just four years of ’sitting it out’ as some have proposed.

Many talk radio hosts have battled a McCain nomination. Even Focus On The Family Director Dr. Dobson (who I admire ) has declared his refusal to vote for McCain.

This astonishes me because it’s the same as saying “if we don’t get the conservative I want, We’ll let the country go to hell in a hand basket.”

This, in my opinion is very dangerous and makes our future prospects harder - since our children will be growing up in the aftermath of such a decision.

Anti McCain pundits and commentators such as Rush Limbaugh have ventured the idea that perhaps we should sit this election out and let the Dems have a term in office, claiming it might pave the way for a future shot at a candidate he and others will like in four years.

While I understand these expressions of dismay, I think it’s shortsighted. Imagine the damage our country will endure if Democrats control all three branches of government for 4 to 8 years. .

This would give liberals what they will treat as a clear sign from America that is it ready to move sharply to the left. Conservatism will lose most of it’s teeth and the liberal agenda could easily reverse all of the progress we’ve made in the war on terror, Tax reduction, Pro Life, and other extremely important issue.

We can always address the issue of immigration again in 4 years. What we cannot afford to see happen is a liberal agenda that makes illegal immigration the least of our country’s problems. Our country may be so torn up, it won’t have the time to even visit the issue, like we can today.

There is no such thing as a quick recovery from 4 years of liberalism unchecked. We may be facing what will take years and years of damage to undo. What’s more, there’s no guarantee that it WILL be undone. The passage of even one single liberal law is extremely difficult to outlaw - as if Roe V Wade hasn’t taught us this already!

Rush Limbaugh and others may revel in 4 years of liberal destruction as a talk radio host who can use the material, however all it takes is one liberal judge appointed to the Supreme Court to unravel the one ace we’ve achieved in the last 8 years. This doesn’t occur to me as a smart decision for Conservatives to be making..

As Evangelical Conservatives know, Pride cometh before the fall, and I hope they will study that verse before deciding to approach this election with dismay rather than enthusiasm.

Questioning McCain was right and highly useful for a time and a season. But there are greater threats looming on our horizon than John McCain.

It’s time to put our differences aside and get with the business assuring our children, they will not grow up in a socialist, liberally dominated world. This may be our cross roads, and it is certainly no time to be staying home on Election Day.
