BARCELONA, Spain, Feb 14 (AFP) Feb 14, 2008
Spanish police said Thursday they were investigating the theft of a briefcase belonging to an inspector of the UN’s nuclear watchdog agency and which may contain classified information.
The theft occurred at Barcelona airport on August 2 as the inspector was about to board a flight to Vienna, site of the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency, a police spokesman said.
He did not reveal the identity of the inspector or provide any further details.
Local media said the briefcase may have contained secret information about nuclear energy, as well as the inspector’s passport and personal items such as a mobile phone, a digital camera and a GPS navigator.
