Breaking: Police Shut Down Times Square And Subways After Explosion At Recruiting Station
NEW YORK (AP) - Police have cordoned off a section of New York City’s Times Square to investigate what witnesses describe as a small explosion. Subways into the area where also shut down.
Members of the police department’s bomb squad and fire officials gathered early Thursday outside a military recruiting station with a large hole in the front window. Police could not confirm that an explosive device was set off in the area, one of the most famous locations in the world.
Local television stations said subway trains were being prevented from entering the Times Square station during the investigation, and police cars and tape blocked the streets.

March 6th, 2008 at 3:21 amI can hear Code Pink cheering for this shit already! I Wouldn’t even be too surprised if the Peaceful Pinkos weren’t involved!
“The recruiting station has been the site of regular antiwar protests since the start of the Iraq war in 2003…. The interior contains space for Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine recruiters and one bathroom.”

Blackfive made a good point…
W cannot question their patriotism because we don’t know if they have any…paraphrased.
March 6th, 2008 at 4:04 amYou can’t tell me that Times Square doesn’t have some sort of monitoring. I’ve been there as late as August 2007 and the police were evrywhere, cameras too. The cowards that did this will get caught.
March 6th, 2008 at 4:56 amThey keep calling this a ’small’ explosion yet people up on the 44th floor could actually feel it. the guy described it as a big bang. shook the floor
March 6th, 2008 at 5:40 amBash,
They say the guy was on a bicycle, with no “apparent” link to al Qaeda, or so saith the “Media reports” (i.e. Fox News’ Fox and Friends).
Remember the bombing of the British Consulate, in New York city, May 5, 2005, it took place at 3:50 am (approxmiately the same time as this bombing) and there was a person seen leaving the area on a bicycle. Strangely familiar to this situation.
And, How many reports have there been of bicycle bombers in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, and the Philipines? On and on that list can go.
Perhaps that technique has arrived on our shores. But, will our government or the mass left-wing media report it as such?
March 6th, 2008 at 6:09 amAm I the only one who is not completely outraged by this? Everyone wants to assume the culprit must be some liberal extremist bent on fearmongering. I’ve even read suggestions that this is somehow connected to Hillary. What kind of crackpot conspiracy theory is that? Like a former Democratic first-lady is going to terrorize the American people and risk her whole campaign. This sort of behavior is much more in line with the Bush administration’s way of inspiring “patriotism” and garnering support by showing there is a “threat” out there.
Who is to say this bicyclist is not the bitter parent or relative of a soldier lost needlessly? Who couldn’t believe that the loss of a child opened the eyes of military family out there, causing them to see the insanity of this war?
This person could be most patriotic. Their intent was not to harm, but to draw attention to a major source of the political problem in this country: the military.
March 6th, 2008 at 7:38 amCharles,
It appears clear to me that their is virtually no chance of a derranged hilary supporter attacking our nations recruiting centers. Yet as someone who is himself enlisting in the Marine Corps this year I find your suggestions that the Military is the source of major political problems very offensive. Tehcnically you are correct there is no information proving anything about the bicyclist, but who is even to say he’s involved. The fact is that at this early hour we do not simply know. As far as your position on the war, I will let others address that issue and I will withhold my own judgment for the verasity of my arguement.
What I want you to consider is that every soldier, sailor, airmen, Marine and coast guardsmen that we’ve lost in combat in Iraq (3,974 Americans as of 3/6/2008 every one was a volunteer and to attack the Military out of a political cause is neither justifiable or patriotic. Perhaps if these people educated themselves on the actual status of Iraq and then they might be able to draw attention to using a valid method, through our goverments legislature (and not through attacking recruiters who are simply doing thier jobs).
Thank you,
March 6th, 2008 at 8:50 amWell Charles, you must have a different handle over at KosKids or DU. They’re saying the same thing you are….how convenient…..
March 6th, 2008 at 9:07 amPlease tell me more, I’d love to hear whatever specifically you can tell us about this incident? “Not to harm”? Are you saying that you see no harm in setting off explosives in public? Your use of the terms “Liberal extremist” and “Crackpot” were far more fitting than you probably realize.
March 6th, 2008 at 9:15 amMaybe Obama’s “former” Weather Underground friend Bill Ayers did this. He’s into this kind of stuff and Obama thinks it’s OK to be “friendly” with him and take campaign donations from him.
March 6th, 2008 at 9:23 amCharles Smith, an extension of your logic would be that the police are responsible for criminal behavior because they go after criminals. You’re a loon.
March 6th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Charles Smith. Just go away. And take your weird ideas with you.
March 6th, 2008 at 11:16 amHow dare you say our military is the biggest political problem in the nation!
Go listen to Air America or something.
I’m thinking if the cops catch they guy, turning him over to some 9 11 surviviors might be handy.
March 6th, 2008 at 12:29 pmOMG! Someone broke a plane of glass at 3am. Stop the presses and shut down the city! Who cares? Looks like a case of media over-dramatization to me.
March 6th, 2008 at 7:41 pmthis is a straight bitch move. Who has a problem with a military recruiting station anyways… we’re a volunteer military…
Everyone in the military chose to do this we get a national defense ribbon for joining in time of war. This “attack” just shows how stupid some groups are. I really can’t stand what’s happening in america today, glad im not a civilian (no offense to you awesome military supporting civilians that frequent this site though :P). (PS i hate liberals… A LOT)
March 6th, 2008 at 7:43 pmmichael moore is running it on his site as some kind of victory. what an arsehole
