Hillary Pursuing The Tonya Harding Option?

Damn, I got a good chuckle out of reading this. I personally had been thinking along the lines of boiled bunnies and repeat comebacks a la “Fatal Attraction”, and also at times considered the “Jason Voorhees” scenario, even thought once or twice about the “28 Days Later” thing…you know, up from the dead rabid and quick and raging.
But the Tonya Harding option. For those of you who may not remember, Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan were to meet in the ‘94 Figure Skating Championships and while practicing, a guy with a bat or something (can’t remember exactly) came out and attacked Nancy Kerrigan, hitting her in the knee and knocking her out of the competition.
I’ll never forget the way she was crying in bewilderment when it happened. Tough break.
Tonya Harding went into the Championships with Kerrigan out of the way, and won.
Turns out Harding and her husband paid the guy to assault Nancy Kerrigan, and she ended up getting the title stripped.
So the “Tonya Harding Option” referred to here by ABC News’ Jake Tapper, as applied to Hillary and Hussein, alludes to the idea that Hillary will do anything to destroy Obama, even if it means she goes down as well…
I don’t know…good chuckle, interesting read and theory:
l just spoke with a Democratic Party official, who asked for anonymity so as to speak candidly, who said we in the media are all missing the point of this Democratic fight.
The delegate math is difficult for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, the official said. But it’s not a question of CAN she achieve it. Of course she can, the official said.
The question is — what will Clinton have to do in order to achieve it?
What will she have to do to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, in order to eke out her improbable victory?
She will have to “break his back,” the official said. She will have to destroy Obama, make Obama completely unacceptable.
“Her securing the nomination is certainly possible - but it will require exercising the ‘Tonya Harding option.’” the official said. “Is that really what we Democrats want?”
The Tonya Harding Option — the first time I’ve heard it put that way.
Last I heard Tonya was beating the crap out of other ugly washed-up women in celebrity boxing.
It implies that Clinton is so set on ensuring that Obama doesn’t get the nomination, not only is she willing to take extra-ruthless steps, but in the end neither she nor Obama win the gold.
(In this metaphor, presumably, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., would be Oksana Baiul. Does that make former President Bill Clinton Jeff Gillooly?)
