Give A Hoot, Don’t Pollute: Iraqi Children Help Clean The Streets
Although I’m not sure if they know who Woodsy Owl is, they should in the future. It worked here in the 70’s.
Multi-National Division -Southeast PAO
BASRA – The Iraqi Army Sergeant Major of 2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Division motivated the children of the Hyyaniyah district in Basrah, Iraq, to pick up trash from their streets April 20.
The sergeant major gave the children ice-cream as an incentive.
The Iraqi Army also provided soccer balls and helped make a park for the neighborhood.
Additionally, the sergeant major delivered a speech to the children about being responsible for keeping one’s streets clean.

this is a cool story. I hope those kids all have great lives from here on out with freedom and security.

This is a great story.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:44 pmKids being kids.
Wonder how much of the “trash” was empty candy/snack wrappers (from treats the troops handed out to the kids), and discarded carelessly by the kids
Seriously, these people are lacking in the right kind of pride. And it begins on this level.
April 24th, 2008 at 7:54 pmThe only hope for Iraq’s future is breaking the “in-sh’allah” mindset. Teaching these kids that they can make a difference by taking responsibility for whatever challenge is before them is the best start they could hope for.

Very true. I think the children of Iraq will grow up to be much better people than their parents, as long as they have good role models, namely our troops, to look up to. They young people are already starting to discard Islam.
That’s the big thing, any gains are temporary as long as the next generation grows up muslim, because they always convince themselves, “This time we can make sharia work!”
I’ve said before the only way we’ll have lasting peace is if their culture changes from one of Islam and death to Christianity (or Zoroastrianism, whatever works) and life.
We’re finally making decent progress on that. If we succeed, it will have been more than worth all the blood and treasure we’ve spent.
