From Voices Of Iraq, The AP ( unaffiliated, I’m using that as a comparative description ) Of Iraq:
Baghdad, Apr 18, (VOI)- Leader of the Sadrist bloc in the parliament Nasser al-Rubaei said on Friday that Sadr City still under siege, describing condition in the city as “tragicâ€.
“The government’s decision to lift the siege on Sadr City has not been so far implemented and the city still under siege,†al-Rubaei told Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq.
Sadrists bloc has 30 seats out of the 275-seat parliament.
Sadr City and a number of southern provinces, mainly Basra, Iraq’s second largest city and oil hub, 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, had witnessed immense security unrest a few hours after Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced a plan to impose order in the province.
Fierce battles occurred between security forces and armed groups believed to belong to Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr’s Mahdi Army militias.
