who paid the security forces, I bet the Dubai emir did !

the piraty has been on for ages in these aeras ; anyone who’s read Henri de Monfreid’ s books has an idea of what it was in the earlier past century.

That’s the way the populations there earn some money on their rock soil.

A UN resolution will help but will not cure the problem, the pirats will become more intelligent and or agressive.::

A UN resolution wont do anything. we need to just start making sure all ships are armed and just kill these pirates as they approach, then maybe the others will learn their lesson.

Best way to handle Islamo-facist pirates is to kill them. Attack their ports, take back the ships and withdraw out to sea.

There needs to be an international task force sitting in the sea lanes ready to capture or kill any pirate that attempts to seize merchant shipping.

The UN can just stay out of it. The western governments themselves out to work out their coordinated plans and tell the UN: This is what we’re going to do. If the rest of the world doesn’t like it, then don’t hijack our ships”.

France, the US, Britain, have sufficient Naval forces and power to work together to keep piracy at bay. Let those nations put together a plan to aggressively go after international pirates, try them (they’re stateless) in their own courts and jail them or kill them….

Otherwise the pirates will continue to hold international merchant shipping hostage; demand ransom which pays for their kat and terrorist supplies; that pays for their insurgencies, and increases the cost of merchant shipping by driving up the price of insurance.

Enough talk. A .50 cal round to the head of a pirate is far more effective than paper work at the UN will ever be.

Be great sport to cruise those waters on a dummy looking yacht, drop the props and sport shoot the punks w/50cal. ala the Germans and their faux freighters in WWII.

Hell, a cruise company might sell these as a tour, A Princess “pound the pirates” 10 day cruise, with choice of weapon.

im a merchant marine who has been on ships in these areas, noone on American flagged ships is allowed a weapon, the only defense we have against pirates is lights and firehoses!

I suppose the hijacking of “Le Ponant” has been the best advertising for the Cie ; (it is also question that some special force fighters would be enrolled…)

I was told that some decades ago there were guns in the captain office, about 40, so that the equipage could defend itself against hijackings, at this time it was more about palestinian terrorism threats. The government should had kept this rule.
