Health care. I am extremely lucky in that I have the VA available to me. Since ‘81 I’ve been in the system. In Nov ‘04 I was bumped up to 100%. I, like many VN veterans caught hepatitis-C but they in those days called it non-hepatitis B. Took non-medical people of guard because we all thought we had been given a test for hep-B and been found to be clean. By the late ’80s they finally gave it the name hepatitis-C. But I didn’t get tested until the late ’90s. Around that time I noticed that there was this discomfort in my lower right. I just dismissed it as “well, I guess I’m getting older. I’m 60 now and was 50 then. Today I found out was going on. It wasn’t coming and going, it was pretty much staying. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve had some testing done and they discovered a softball sized tumor in my liver. Yea, like cancer. My point in this is because of the 100% I’ll be comfortable while they’re trying first one treatment to at least starve the tumor. They can’t take it out. But, I will be taken care of. I’m sure everything will work out and not having the added stress while the procedure is being done should be extended to all Americans. We should have a style of care for everyone and have plenty of examples from Europe and Canada on what not to do. I wondered why I’ve been losing weight, I’ve been feeding a goddam tumor. Well, that’s about to change, because the VA is going to kill it. Take that tumor.
