Semi-Auto 12 ga shotgun with OO is more effective, and more likely not to kill bystanders. It’s also more likely to hit the perp for untrained officers. If you center hit a perp with a 12 ga OO who has an AK he is going down.
This whole issue is bogus and designed to push the notion that crooks out gun the good guys. Hence the need for an assault weapons ban … It’s written in the dialog, designed to scare sheeple.
If you hunt, you know a 12 ga OO will drop the quarry without a twitch at 75 yards. Beyond that, I thought police called for backup?
May 6th, 2008 at 7:44 amI’m always amused in a negative way when arms-control advocates say that citizens should be disarmed. The criminals have no problem breaking the law and getting as many weapons as they want, so no law will prevent them from getting guns, automatic or not. The only thing that happens when laws are passed taking away guns is that citizens are left unprotected against the criminals, which is just fine by the criminals. I’m sure that they are in favor of gun bans too.
May 6th, 2008 at 8:02 amDid anyone else notice she held the rifle like it was going to bite her?
And I’d like to know how many of those AKs the crooks use were bought legally.
May 6th, 2008 at 8:15 amdid she just say EX-, MARINE,
thanks you filthy bolsevik
May 6th, 2008 at 10:34 amThe dufus in the clown hat does not seem to know what an automatic rifle is. She said the AR-15 was and the AKs are. Wrong. There were no automatic weapons in this video. People fear the unknown, so the less she knows, the more afraid I would expect her to be.
She’d get along great with Chicago’s mayor Daley who recently said, “When [the police]come to a scene, someone has a semi fully-automatic weapon and you have a little pistol, uh, good luck.” If he knew anything about firearms he would realize the pistol carried by Chicago Police is also a “semi fully-automatic weapon.”
Clearly the word “fully” is added for shock effect. Care for some semi fully-sweet chocolate? You kids stand in a semi full circle. Did you see Hannah Montana’s semi fully-nude pictures?
May 6th, 2008 at 11:41 amI live in Palm Beach County and trust me when i say there are some areas here that you wanna be packing some extra
if yah know what’s good for yah.
That along with the numerous deputies shot and killed with in the last year, the Cops here need all the help they can get.
May 6th, 2008 at 1:11 pmAll cops should be allowed to carry rifles like these. you never ever want to get into a situation where you’re the one with the limited firepower. remember what those 2 bank robbers did with the AKs? they held cops at bay until they finally decided to go to a gun store to get some rifles that would match their firepower. that should never happen!
May 6th, 2008 at 2:55 pmThe current trend in patrol/home defense is towards the AR. I own both, two AR’s I built and a Rem 870, my M4 carbine is now beside my bed instead of the 870. The argument that got me was: 8 or 30: 8 rounds of 12ga or 30 rounds of 5.56, both take up about the same volume and load the AR up with frangible ammo it won’t over penetrate or go through inner house walls. Besides my 5’4” 110 lb wife can handle the AR a lot more readily than the 870. Another reason the AR is over taking the HD shotgun is the more frequent use of body armor by criminals in the commission of a crime.
May 6th, 2008 at 5:36 pmI have no problem with cops and AR’s, most Hi-Po’s around here used to carry mini 14’s in their patrol cars, a less threatening looking semi auto rifle that shoots the .223/5.56 round the AR does.
…and I call bullshit on the cop’s statics in the use of “assault weapons” in crime.
Mossburg used to advertize their 410 as their recommended home defense weapon. It was more powerful than a .357 mag, could be easily controlled by almost anyone because of its weight and two hand operation (compared to a .357 revolver) and they offered it with a 10 round mag. Plus the sound of the slide was an unmistakable attention getter.
Not saying I fully agree–just tossing it out to celebrate diversity.
May 6th, 2008 at 5:56 pmHey Kentucky Jim,
May 6th, 2008 at 8:06 pmBoth the 410 and don’t forget the 20ga are fine rounds, more than adequate for the short ranges you find at home. And I agree, even non-gun guys can recognize the sound of a racking shotgun slide.
One thing though, a lot of folks when they get a pump shotgun is fire it couple of times after they first get it (“hey, that wasn’t much fun, damn thing kicked like a mule!) then stick it by the bed and hardly ever shoot it again. Something to remember with a pump, if you don’t train with it at least a couple a times a year, they are easy to “short stroke”, especially in a stressful situation, like when you need it. Then all you have a $300+ club, because you never trained on how to clear the damn thing.
I like the 410 idea. We had one at our home when I was a kid, although it was only a single-shot. Add a 10-round mag, and maybe saw off the barrel to make it a scattergun and it would make a very fine home-defense weapon.
My current 12-gauge “Ducks Unlimited” long-barreled skeet gun is great for long range, but is hard to maneuver in close quarters.
