LONDON (AP) - World powers negotiating with Iran have agreed on a repackaged offer of incentives to try to coax the Islamic regime into rolling back its disputed nuclear program, Britain’s foreign secretary said Friday.

However, the details of the amended offer being made by the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany were not revealed.

“We’ve got an agreement on an offer that will be made to the government of Iran,” Foreign Secretary David Miliband said following a meeting of the group at Britain’s Foreign Office.

Miliband said he hoped for a response “in a timely manner,” but set no deadline and did not say what the group would do if Iran rejected the package or failed to respond.

Iran has denied pursuing nuclear weapons, saying its program is geared toward generating electricity.

are we completely schizophrenic or what? an incentives package? i heard an estimate yesterday that Iranian EFPs have killed around 300 of our troops inside Iraq and we are offering them a goodie basket. while the government is drawing up an ultimatum for Iran. seems like very mixed signals to me.

There’s a good speech made by Regan I believe on appeasement. Not to mention that appeasement has ALWAYS failed. Since the beginning of civilization, appeasement is showing weakness and the unwillingness to take action. For God’s sake I thought we’d still remember the lessons learned in WWII about what happens in situations of appeasements.

This is the wrong course. Haven’t we learned anything from dealing with North Korea. You can’t trust Iran. Their word is no good. They are big fucking liars. Wake up super powers or they will cause us to fight each other over their quest for the bomb. Do any of the super powers really want Iran to have a nuke. Some of them do not really seem to want to stop them.
Their sponsorship of terrorism alone should be a strong indicator to every major super power who currently has a problem with terrorists in their countries. Wake up or we will all be at war over this group of rats who are running Iran.

Maybe we Americans should start to build bunkers and stock pile survival needs.

I would like to think that this attempt of a negotiated settlement by the civilized (mostly) world would be a final offering before the use of kinetics.

I would hope they are not channeling chamberlain.

If Iran wants nuclear power or even a nuclear bomb, let’s hope Israel sends them one or two.

This approach has been so effective with North Korea.

I’ve got an incentive package for ya, quit trying to build a nuclear program and you get to live. Hell I grew up during the Reagen Era and I’m disgusted at the people who’ve failed to learn anything from PM Chamberlain and “Peace In Our Time”. Except now it’s nuclear tech instead of the sudetenland.

Appeasement has never worked, you can go back as far as recorded history all it’s ever done is emboldened the appeased and spelled disaster for the appeaser.

It disgusts me the amount of politicians in this country who must have failed history and who have never heard of the Barbary Pirates war. “Millions for defense not one cent for tribute!”
