Hezbollah Backs Down, Arab Leaders Meet In Beirut - With Video

One of the key things you will hear in this report is that the lebanese people had always been (naively or not) under the impression the Hezbollah had been stockpiling weapons in South Lebanon to use against Israel. Now they are realizing that the weapons may also have been planned for use against the Democratically elected government of Lebanon in a power-play by Iran and Syria via Hezbollah…
BEIRUT, May 14- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denied allegations that Tehran was interfering in Lebanon’s internal affairs, dismissing Saudi foreign minister’s claims that Iran supported a Hezbollah “coup.”
“Iran is the only country which does not interfere in Lebanon’s internal affairs,” Ahmadinejad told a press conference in Tehran.
Lying sack of shit…who controls Hezbollah? Iran.
An Arab delegation arrived in Beirut airport Wednesday to discuss with rival Lebanese leaders ways to end the Lebanese crisis which developed into sectarian violence in the past days.
The delegation, which arrived at Rafik Hariri International Airport on board of a plane of Qatari Air, headed directly to Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri’s mansion in Ain el-Tineh in Beirut.
Local An Nahar daily reported Wednesday that the team, headed by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem al-Thani, was to meet members of the government and the Hezbollah-led opposition who have been locked in a bitter political feud for 18 months.
The delegation came after Lebanon’s political crisis boiled to deadly clashes between pro and anti-government supporters, which left at least 72 people dead and about 200 others injured.
The clashes broke out last Wednesday after the Lebanese cabinet decided to cease the private communication network of Hezbollah, and remove airport security chief Gen. Wafik Shqaier for alleged links to Hezbollah.
Lebanon is facing the most complicated political crisis since 1975-1990 civil war. Lebanese political rival groups were unable to achieve a breakthrough to elect a new president for the country since Nov. 24 last year when ex-president Emile Lahoud ended his term.

Lebanon’s U.S.-backed cabinet was on Wednesday expected to cancel two measures it took against Hezbollah and which triggered fighting in which the Iranian-backed movement briefly took over parts of Beirut, political sources said.
“You can say it’s a done deal, but we’re waiting for the cabinet meeting,” one political source said. Prime Minister Fouad Siniora was due to hold a cabinet meeting at 1530 GMT.

Ah, they’re going to cancel the “two measures”… in other words, they will let Hezbollah have a completely independent telecommunications system which the duly elected government cannot regulate or control in any way. And they are going to allow Hezbollah to continue to monitor comings and goings at Beirut international airport.
That will really solve the problem!@!!
May 14th, 2008 at 7:32 amRegretfully (yet unsurprisingly) the Democratic government of Lebanon has neither the capability nor the willingness to confront Hizbullah, the pro-Syrian groups nor their benefactors (Iran and Syria). Can we say a case of “The Emperor Has No Clothes”?

May 14th, 2008 at 12:06 pmIt’s like the little child who stands with their blanket over their head thinking they can’t be seen. It’d be nice to think that people grow up and face reality.
The Bekka Valley is supposedly where tons of munitions are being stockpiled and according to the Debka File, it’s where the WMD were taken from Iraq through Syria.
