The russkies need to leave carrier operations to the pros in the US Navy
May 21st, 2008 at 11:30 amnot familiar with soviet carriers, but i’d say the arresting cable broke, he’s almost stopped, then accelerates and into the drink. at least the ejection seat worked! probably have to change his diaper though,

May 21st, 2008 at 1:38 pmThat same thing happened on the Washington when we were doing our blue water certs, an 18 came in, caught the arresting wire, which parted, and then went over the end of the flight deck. Fortunatly the pilot ejected, but the cable snapped back and injured six or seven people (no fatalities that I ever heard of)
The Discovery channel was actually on board at the time and filmed that particular trap when it happened.
May 21st, 2008 at 7:24 pmyea it looks like an Su27k … russian carriers are pretty small compared to US carriers, and have about 25-30 planes on them versus 70+ on the US
