Now Lebanon

Former Syrian Vice President Abd Al-Halim Khadam considered today that “Iran’s and Hezbollah’s positions are now weaker than ever after their military control of Beirut.”

In a statement to the Italian news agency AKI, Khadam said that after Hezbollah turned to the inside after the July 2006 war, “they lost all they have achieved in their long struggle against Israel.”

Regarding the dialogue that is taking place in Doha, Khadam expressed his hope that all the parties will reach an agreement that would allow them to find a way out of this crisis, pointing out that Army Commander General Michel Sleiman has a lot of credibility, and hoped that electing him as president will allow strict measures to be taken against anyone who violates Lebanon’s security and communal living.

That’s what I read here too

It seems that the shia population has had enough of HBZ being the instrument of Iran and Syria ; while they supported HBZ resistance to Israel in 2006, now they turned against HBZ and their “enlightened shiatism” , the aim for peace in Lebanon

    frenchie:

    Good article.

From the section “LE HEZBOLLAH ISOLE AU LIBAN”

    Translation: Isolated Hezbollah in Lebanon

“Since 2005 and the departure of Syrian troops after the assassination of Rafiq Hariri, Nasrallah has repeatedly return to power and influence which were his own, when Damascus was still the rain and weather in Lebanon. This thirst for power is even bigger than the war of 2006, even if it has reinforced the image of Hezbollah thanks to the courage of its fighters, nonetheless constituted a strategic defeat with the deployment of the Lebanese army and the strengthening of UNIFIL, south of the country. Since then, training pro-Iranian and pro-Syrian had stepped up efforts to weaken the government, while the various assassinations of members of the majority and independent personalities, like George Hawi or Samir Kassir. The rallying of General Michel Aoun, ready to do anything to become president of the Republic, made an unexpected coverage Christian Hezbollah and significantly ease his task.

The central problem for Hassan Nasrallah and the leadership of Hezbollah, is that the vast majority of Lebanese, including the Shiite community, has no desire to join the project Party of God, which confuses or joined the Iranian resistance to the USA and its regional ally Israel. Ruinés by fifteen years of civil war, and unjustly hit hard again in 2006, the Lebanese feel they have given enough and do not see why they would be alone in the Arab world to continue to pay dearly for the price of war with Israel While neither Egypt nor Syria, nor any Arab state has not embarked on this path since 1973.

For the head of Israeli intelligence, Amos Yadlin, if Hezbollah did not pursue his victorious march, only to avoid the setbacks management knows that Hamas in Gaza. It meets today to be by far the centre of power the most powerful in Lebanon. This analysis is not really convincing. Also powerful, Hezbollah would have exhausted to impose its domination on the rest of Lebanon. In a few days, he was able to measure the devastation that his conduct has caused, both to Lebanese, including Shiites (many of whom are tired of being regarded as his trusted companions) and Arab countries, whose populations are very poorly perceived as the hero of the War of 2006 turned its weapons against his brothers.”

Iran has isolated its own people, has made enemies with the Shia in Iraq and the Sunnis everywhere else. The Hizzies meanwhile, have lost all cred in Lebanon.

The Shia-Sunni schism of 1400 years cannot be ignored. The Sunnis will not and are not tolerating a resurgent Persian menace on their doorsteps.
