It’s an HBO series called “Deadwood”. The show is primarily a look at the truth of human nature, because it’s set in a town without laws, so instead of behaving out of fear of punishment, people behave as they really are, and because everyone can be like that, you have to survive solely by your wits and ruthlessness. Deadwood was the first tv series in history to legitimately hit the level of Shakespeare without the old English tedium suffered by a modern audience.

Here’s how the “Deadwood” fan phenemenon works. You watch the firs two episodes, and you’re like, okay this is alright, but what’s the big deal,this is just a one gimmick show where you have cowboys cussing, and then by the end of the third episode everything has become clearer, and you’re hooked like a crack addict. You can rent the seasons. Unfortunately, the third and last season was still good, but just didn’t “bring it” like they did in the first two, probably because everyone knew the ship was sinkingl

Ultimately, to me, and I say this without hyperbole, “Deadwood” was the best series in the history of television. If anyone disagrees, I’d like to hear what you think is better.

When I was in Ramadi, I had two forms of entertainment available to me. The complete “O.C” and the complete “Deadwood”. I connected with it especially, because I was in a modern “Deadwood”

I personally think “Twin Peaks” was the greatest series ever to air on TV…

I often quote Deadwood, usually without the cussing, since I teach High School. World War II is my favorite movie genre so Deadwood and Band of Brothers are neck and neck. The interesting thing is as a kid I hated Westerns. I have come around a little since then and Deadwood has a lot to do with it.

David Lynch is a leftist anti-American values freak sensationalist with some good moments. Pretentious comes to mind. Although Eraserhead was a masterpiece. He made Twin Peaks to show America that Family Values and suburbia were dog shit - that the American Dream was a lie, window dressing on the true fetid state of humanity: we’re all perverts. Deadwood, I have found in my years of watching too much cocksucking TV, IS the best fucking show ever on TV, and thank the Underverse gods there was a venue such as HBO to run the fucker, since it would never have aired as is on regular TV … and would NOT have had the same effect as Pat stated above.

Also, dtodeen, Homicide: Life On The Streets was the most fucking awesome regular TV show ever. It IS the standard by which all of today’s cop/crime shows SHOULD be measured … and many fail.

I’ve had PTSD (not from combat) I was stalked by a psycho. I was afraid for my life in my own home for over a year. It took its toll on my physical body. I was an energetic Wife/Mom of 3 loving life in America before this happened. We left town and a YEAR later I collapsed, blood pressure 70/40.
I could not stand up. The depression comes because you feel worthless. Then satan comes (Yes he is alive and well and has a horrible plan for your life) tempting with suicide. It is the most AWFUL place to be. By the Grace of God, the love of my husband and help from a doctor I am back to roller-blading with my kids and scuba-diving with my man.

Try and understand that it is not a whining attitude. Many Vets won’t seek help because of that stigma.

Read my commentary carefully. I was speaking for my own experience, and made it clear that I wasn’t dismissing PTSD as fraudulent. Even the line you cite about whining was about me, what I didn’t want to say about myself, not about anyone else. It’s a sensitive issue and I’m not a doctor, which is why I didn’t pass judgement on it, and just gave you the thought processes that helped get me through with what I went through.

I have a dear friend who started out as a coaching client of mine who did two tours as a Marine in Iraq. He retired at the end of 2006.

He saw a lot of action, killed some jihadi’s, and saw good friends get killed that had families and kids and came back wondering what the fuck? He came back without a scratch while people all around him got hit or killed.

He went over there looking at the world one way and came back trying to make sense of it all. His model of the world was totally rocked and destroyed. He did not know what to believe in anymore.

He’s doing a lot better and will be moving to Orlando next month. My friends and I are renting a kick ass house with him and we are gonna get him laid like a rock star! He paid his dues and now its time to party!

How could I let him suffer when I have the ability to help? A few weeks ago he told me he’d walk thru fire for me and I told him he already had. For the rest of his life he has nothing to prove to anybody.

The hardest thing for him was talking about it. He was scared everyone would think he is a monster for what he did so he keeps it all inside.

Dr Wayne Dyer said something that I really love. He said “a friend is someone to whom you can speak aloud.”

The greatest therapy for a vet is to talk to someone who will listen and be non-judgmental and most importantly let them know that what they did was ok.

Not only was it ok but it was their duty which we are all grateful they performed and performed well.

NO VET SHOULD EVER BE MADE TO FEEL THAT WHAT THEY DO IN COMBAT WAS ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT WAS EXPECTED OF THEM! I mean we ask them to fight for us, they do their duty, and then they gotta come back to assholes like Harry Reid who try to make them feel ashamed of being a soldier? Ashamed of killing the bad guys? Nothing makes my blood boil more than shit like that.

They should round up the whole town of Berkley and drop them in Waziristan for a little vacation. That will change their paradigm.

God bless every one of our troops. They are the real Americans as far as I am concerned. I’m just a guy who enjoys all the freedoms guys like him provide.

I was my high school’s Young Republicans (aka “young fascists” to the dems) Vice Chairman during my senior year (2004-2005), and we had the last laugh in the election! However, my community is largely republican-leaning, so we had little challenge getting support.
