May 12th, 2008 at 3:47 pmwatching for that scene alone, the pilot was hammered, and
crazy looking even when he wasn’t! Scene was shot in Costa Rica, apparently it’s true, South American night life is the most severe on earth.
I don’t know…Pretty stupid thing to do on purpose to a rare old bird, probably a Grumman Goose. He almost certainly damaged the outrigger pontoons, and could easily have done some spar damage digging the wing into the sand like that — thinks my pilot self.
But, he seems to have carried power a lot longer than you would in an emergency, then he cuts power, then briefly adds a tad more, as if he’s aiming, rather than just glad to be down anywhere. And, if he’s got power in two engines, what’s the emergency? I don’t know, I wasn’t there.
My photographer self sees dead steady panning, following the plane, and then a smooth, almost imperceptible zoom. You don’t see dead steady panning, and zooming in a hand-held consumer videocam in an unplanned shot.
I vote for a movie, but, damn! They’re not making these planes anymore!
