Wow the Awakening is manning checkpoints? I mean now there's Iraqi's securing Iraq. I mean sure we man checkpoints, but still. I never knew that the Awakening did that, I always thought they were used as guerrilla fighters. Kind of like the villagers during Vietnam.

my brother-in-law is a civilian contractor in Fallujah, working for Dynacorp. He was back in town this week for my father-in-laws funeral. He is a former Colorado State trooper, training Iraqi Police recruits in Fallujah. The Iraqi's may be manning check points but let me tell you; they suck-ass at it! From time to time he and his fellow trainers visit these checkpoints un-announced and as incognito as possible and videotape what these IP's are doing during checkpoint stops/searches. I've seen these tapes myself and they fucking suck. Some of the 'officers' aren't even wearing uniforms;just jeans and a t-shirt. Leading the trainers to wonder if he is even an IP? Their muzzle and trigger discipline is non-existent. They search vehicles without opening the trunk to search;and have no cover officers watching the cars occupants or the other cars in the line. Someone in any one of the cars could be arming a VBIED and they wouldn't even freakin' know it. Needless to say, my brother-in-law is frustrated to no end. He said some of the 'volunteers' are as young as 14. But he does get paid 150K a year for doing it.
