he is lucky that he used that half second or so warning to turn his head or he would have been blasted in the face with shrapnel. nothing like pulling glass out of your face, that sucks

May 5th, 2008 at 1:24 pmI was working in a lab for advanced inorganic chemistry while getting my undergrad degree and somebody dumped some concentrated nitric acid in a waste container with an organic solvent. Over the following several minutes it essentially made something similar to TNT and exploded with no warning. Fortunately only 4 people were in the room and we were all on the other side of the room and the explosion took place in a fume hood which contained a lot of the. No one was hurt. We just had ringing in our ears for 2 days.
