Sci-Fi Originals And Clones

The Blob: ORIGINAL (1958)

The Blob: REMAKE (1988)

The Thing: ORIGINAL (1951) … (Note the Hussein-like ‘talk to the enemy’ liberal … heh!)

The Thing: Carpenter REMAKE (1982) … (That last line is one of my favorites in a movie)

Which is better?

The Original version?

Or the more modern movie-tech Remake?

Carpenter’s remake of the Thing is the best. First watched that when I was 13, under a blanket at 2 a.m. in a hotel in Denver, Colorado. Needless to say I had trouble getting any sleep…

I was never a big fan of “The Blob”, but I must say that John Carpenter’s remake of “The Thing” is one of my favorite movies of all time. The 1951 version is way too sterile but still fairly decent.

They Live, Halloween, Prince of Darkness, & Escape From New York are all very good Carpenter films too.

Interesting side note,The original “Blob” was Steve McQueen’s first movie. The original “The Thing” was James Arness’ first movie,(he played the Thing).
Another note, the Blob exists, it’s called a slime mold and devours any organic material, animal or vegetable in its path, fortunately for us it’s very small.
I saw both originals as a youth and they scared the hell out of me, as an adult when I saw the successors they didn’t bother me at all.

I loved the Remake of the Thing. Shit I would like to see it again.

The remake is waaaay better. One of Kurt’s better flicks too.

    Re: The Thing remake

Damn! I’m glad we are in agreement on that!

The final scene with just the two lone surviving guys at a safe distance from each other around a bonfire in the sub-zero dead of night and snow (like the only two left on the face of the Earth) … wondering if the other is the alien … “suspicion” the ONLY human element left alive … leaving YOU to wonder as the movie goes black and credits roll which IS the alien …

One of Carpenter’s best, I think. And I am a huge fan of “Escape From New York” …
