Security forces arrest senior al-Qaeda-linked group commander in Anbar

(VOI) - Security forces arrested 12 wanted persons including a senior commander of al-Qaeda-linked group in Anbar, The Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

“a force fromal-Qaim emergency battalion captured 12 suspected terrorists including a senior commader in self-proclaimed Iraq’s Islamic State identified as Hamad Hnayesh Matar” an interior Ministry statement received by Aswat al-Iraq(VOI).

Self-proclaimed Iraq’s islamic state is a mantra for a number of Sunni groups , including al-Qaeda network in iraq,that has come to existence in 2006 October. The armed activities of the group have centred in western and northern Iraqi areas.

The announcement noted “the detainees were handed to concerned justice authorities”.
Al-Qaim of Anbar province is a border town between Iraq and syria. It has the epicentre for uprising against al-Qaeda network in Iraq.

Meanwhile, the announcement pointed out “Interior ministry forces in cooperation with al-Asmaee police station arrested a kidnapping gang after raiding their houses in western Basra”.
Basra, the capital city of Basra province, lies 590 km south Baghdad.
