Suspected Taliban militants on Wednesday burned down a primary school for girls in the Sherpalam area of Swat district in north-western Pakistan, said officials.

Suspected pro-Taliban activists burned down the school in an overnight raid, said reports quoting Pakistani officials. However, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Reports said that the wooden school was completely destroyed in the attack and hinted at an exchange of fire between the Pakistani forces and the militants.

This is the second attack of its kind after another girl’s school destroyed in a petrol bomb attack by suspected pro-Taliban activists in the Charbagh area on Sunday.

Militant attacks in the area have increased after the pro-Taliban militants called off a peace-deal last week, which they had reached with the newly elected government of Pakistan earlier.
