I listened to the whole speel. I was very impressed with the line of questioning of the troops. I know one thing, they are deserving of more pay. This economic stimulus that we are getting, they should be getting double or triple. And there should be a more equitable way of rotating those in recruiting, training and deployable units.
Training & recruiting are (as Adm Mullen stated) very critical pieces that just cannot be unplugged without creating a hole in the strength of forces over an extended period.
This is where the civilian government plays a role in at least recruitment. They should be encouraging the civilian population to serve their nation. But the stinking politicians (democRATS primarily) want this battle lost for a political point.
