Baghdad, Jun 10, (VOI) – Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki highlighted mutual relations between Iraq and Turkey as the ultimate means of establishing security and stability in the region.

Al-Maliki’s remark was made during his reception of a Turkish delegate in his Baghdad-based office today, according to a presidential statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).

“Al-Maliki stressed the importance of developing relations between Iraq and Turkey in all fields,” the statement noted.
“Partnership between the two neighbors will help establish security and stability in the region, and mutual visits by officials will boost relations and support the reconstruction process, which is currently taking place in Iraq,” the statement said, quoting al-Maliki.

Al-Maliki called to expand cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and agriculture, urging neighboring Turkey to assist in the training of Iraqi armed forces and help provide necessary logistic support for them.

The statement also quoted the Turkish delegate as reiterating his country’s support for the Iraqi political process and government. The Turkish official also revealed his government’s plans to take part in the reconstruction and development process in Iraq.
