CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader is calling on Muslims to launch a holy war to break Israel’s economic blockade of the Gaza Strip.
In a new audio posted on a militant Web site, a voice purportedly belonging to Ayman al-Zawahri says that the “salvation of the Muslim nation is through the march of its sons on the path of jihad.”
The authenticity of the 11-minute audio couldn’t immediately be verified. It marked the 41st anniversary of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
The Israeli military regularly clashes with militants in Gaza who fire rockets into Israel.
