Is this related to Gates anger at the airforces slow deployment of UAVs and other assets to help the warfighters in Iraq. If so, good. Gates is lighting fires under asses at the highest levels. Hes also a champion of Odierno and Petraeus.

I read a story a few weeks back about the air force being uncompromising in pilots they hire for predator planes. there is a shortage of pilots currently. The tone of the report was that the air force was uncooperative with the other agency’s that need more spy planes in the air.

Good for Gates! There should absolutely be accountability at that level.

Last August a B-52 bomber was mistakenly armed with six nuclear-tipped cruise missiles and flown across the country. The pilot and crew were unaware they had nuclear arms aboard. The error was considered so grave that President Bush was quickly informed.

Wasn’t six missiles, it was one. Wouldn’t say armed…it was just a missile with a warhead. Couldn’t have been launched or caused any det. Bad? Oh hell yah, comedy of errors leading to it.

I’d say the step down is more for the big tanker contract issue that just came up.

The AF is completely broken. Congress won’t give us any money for F-22’s, so leadership decided to cut personnel in exchange for a few dozen planes while China and Russia are getting ready to mass produce next generation fighters. Were stuck with 30+ year old planes and not enough people to keep them running. If I was in their shoes I would gladly leave and let someone else deal with the stingy politicians. Good job Congress, way to keep us obsolete and demoralized

I think its funny that the Australian military is so pissed and demoralized about not committing more to the war on terror, and yet the Airforce is content with sticking its thumb up its ass. “Yeah yeah we’ll be there for the next war” what a joke, good job Gates - the man needs a wheel barrel for his gigantic balls.
