Brutal Do Not Watch If Easily Upset: Python Swallows Chick Alive

June 8th, 2008 Posted By Bash.

Do not watch this if you think it may upset you. I saw a similar video once long ago and it was one of the most shocking things I have ever seen. I do believe that what is going on here is suspect, because pythons usually constrict and crush/suffocate their prey before swallowing it, so I am wondering if the python was in the middle of swallowing a dead rat or something and the owner decide to put the chick in the snake’s mouth…

What is your take on this? Again, don’t complain about this, because you were warned ahead of time about it. I just find it way too baffling to not bring up…

Yeah, seems strange. My buddy had one when we were kids and I never seen it eat anything alive.

Another dead chicken does it really matter?

ya know there is a reason why pythons and the like KILL their praey BEFORE they eat them. Look at it this way, most of the time said prey isnt moving about or anything so the possibility of any damage to the Python’s internals are slim. Now you’ve got live prey which will move about and possibly damage the Python itself, there’s irony for ya ;)Pretty lame move on the snake owner IMHO.

Yeah, constrictors kill their prey first by squeezing it to death, before moving the prey around to be swallowed head first. This is to avoid hangups on any appendages that would interfere with the swallowing process.

too bad it wasn’t rosie o’donnel getting eaten. but i doubt the python could unhinge it’s jaw that far

some pythons in captivity will not constrict their prey at all i guess its just laziness. i have a young carpet python who just cruises up to her meal opens her mouth and puts her jaws around it then proceeds to swallow it.
