That’s good cuz downtown ABQ is a shit hole and really needs something to clean it up.

So the dumb shit thinks that education in partiotism is not a good investment.

The guy in the red shirt is an asshole and does have an issue against patriotism despite what he said otherwise.

If it was a statue to “la raza” you can bet he would be ALL FOR IT.

It’s APS they’re just mad that the Charter schools don’t bend over forwards for them every time and generally score higher. Albuquerque school administrators all failed the history test and think socialist ideals, i.e. government monopolies (especially on education), work. It’s in APS administrators to see them fail because then they can point and say “see non government monopoly schools don’t work.”

And yeah, downtown ABQ is a shit hole, governor wouldn’t know though, he only spends about three months out of the year in the state.

I’m sorry, if it were a donation that’d be fine. But why not spend the money on better education of American history, if you want to be patriotic? Seems we’re in more need of that than a damn statue.

“when you have a leaky roof, come down to this statue to see where your tax dollars went.”

That sounds like a good idea, and while im looking at that statue I will be thanking those for whom this statue is dedicated. I will be thanking them for my roof, even if it is leaking, which is standing over my head.

Yeah I actually agree with the guy in red. What this country needs is a better education system, and health and fitness to be taken seriously as apart of every school….

Our school’s mascot was “The Patriots” but if we wanted to build a statue we’d have gotten donations from the ocmmunity, beat feet to get sponsers etc…..you can’t buy a monument “for students” a better method would have been in my opinion to have the kids raise the money, $80,000 is very doable.

This isn’t about whether you’re patriotic, this is wether your financially responsible.

Still that said, that a school board was willing to use funds to do something like this does make me feel glad……I just think it’d been more meaningful to have kids get the funds.

Lucero was the only board member against, and is either unaware or too aware of the power of symbols. People like ‘em, and are prepared to sacrifice for ‘em. “Roof leaks” my a**. $80K is chump change for a school district.

Here’s a good article on the school, http://tinyurl.com/44t2tw
    with a closing zinger:
“Bryan Wehrli, a humanities teacher who worked at APS for 10 years before coming to Amy Biehl, says for him Amy Biehl has changed everything about teaching. “There’s freedom we have as teachers here that’s impossible to get in district schools,” he says. “It can be harder work, because you’re always working with new ideas, but it’s also more gratifying.” Wehrli does recognize, however, that not all charter schools are necessarily as successful as Amy Biehl. “Not all charter schools will work out,” he admits, adding that if many traditional schools weren’t failing so miserably, we wouldn’t need to search out alternatives in the first place.”
