It does seem a little strange that this should be the THIRD crane collapse this year.

Are these parts made in China?

A lot of their cast valves are failing inspections over here, and the valve rebuilding shops are "balls to the walls" these days rebuilding good old USA valves. A failed valve could wreck a chemical plant or refinery.

Looks like the same sized crane that collapsed at Miller Park
killing 3 guys in a observation basket on another crane. Those iron workers are very brave. Luckily no one died in Texas.

I own a small crane and decided to buy it after spending quite a few years in front of them directing operations and I believe the accidents like the guy getting hit with the ball (hook) will only continue until the licensing requirements change to include time in front of the machine directing before an operator can get licensed. I bought mine after a respected seasoned crane op knocked me and my crew off a 12 foot wall.
This accident has more to do with quality parts and assembly procedures though.
