CHICAGO, June 11, 2008 (Reuters) — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Wednesday said the head of his vice presidential search team and former head of the mortgage giant Fannie Mae had decided to step aside.
Obama said in a statement that Jim Johnson had decided to quit the unpaid position in order to avoid distracting from the process of gathering information about possible vice presidential candidates.
Obama appointed Johnson last week to a three-member team heading the search for his running mate, but Johnson became embroiled in a controversy over questionable loans from lender Countrywide Financial.

Hypocrites. Guy works at the top at Fannie Mae, and then has one of the top mortgage companies in the country give him favorable terms that no one else can get for a loan and then doesn’t disclose it to shareholders. Isn’t that called a bribe? Let’s see: Countrywide has a real big interest in having Fannie Mae on its side, doesn’t it? Hey, Obama, what happened to “change from politics as usual, and being for the “little guy”?

You may not have seen it but LGF pulled up the connections yesterday that Johnson is now Vice Chairman of Perseus Funds which is a Soros toy and it also is the parent company of the publisher of the Scott McClellan book.
NYT also did a profile on him that showed he was very much involved in CEO compensation issues for a number of large corporations, which is a hot button issue for Obama.
Plus this guy ran the Mondale campaign and was a advisor to pick the vp for all dem races since with the exception of the Clinton years per Politico.
Lots of negatives there and not surprising Obama put him under that very crowded bus.
