Baghdad, Jun 5, (VOI)- Head of the parliament’s Human Rights committee Hareth al-Ubeidi on Thursday demanded the executive authorities to take the necessary steps to prevent the violation of human rights inside the Iraqi jails.

“There are torture causes in a number of the Iraqi jails, mainly in Basra, Karbala and al-Askandariya,” al-Ubeidi said at a press conference in Baghdad.

He blamed the executive authorities of not implementing instruction related to the detainee’s human rights.
He demanded the defence, interior and human rights ministers to take necessary steps to prevent the violation of human rights in the jails.

The MP called on justice minister to implement the general amnesty law.

In February 2008, the Iraqi Parliament enacted the General Amnesty bill that allows the release of Iraqi detainees, according to certain terms and conditions, exclusively from Iraqi detention centers. The Iraqi Presidential Council ratified the Law on March 27, 2008, and it was implemented on the same month.
