Baghdad, June26, (VOI) - Iraqi judicial source said his country would lodge a lawsuit against the United Nations at a U.S court over corruption charges in the Oil-for-Food programme overseen by the International organisation for seven years.

“A Texas-based legal firm would lodge an Iraqi government lawsuit at state court in NewYork”, Iraqi Justice Ministry source, who requested anonmity, told Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq(VOI).

The source noted “Iraq file the case to catch up with its deadline expiring by the end of June”.

The Oil-for-Food Programme, established by the United Nations in 1995, which started working on April16th 1996 and terminated in late 2003, was intended to allow Iraq to sell oil on the world market in exchange for food, medicine, and other humanitarian needs for ordinary Iraqi citizens without allowing Iraq to rebuild its military.

The programme was introduced by U.S administration in 1995, as a response to arguments that ordinary Iraqi citizens were inordinately affected by the international economic sanctions aimed at the demilitarisation of Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, imposed in the wake of the first Gulf War. The sanctions were discontinued on November21, 2003 after the U.S. Invasion of Iraq, and the humanitarian functions turned over to the Coalition Provisional Authority.

As the programme ended, there were revelations of corruption involving the funds.

According to an interim report released by an idependent commission led by former Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker food aid supplied under the programme “was unfit for human consumption”.

The report concluded that former regime of Saddam Hussein had gained nearly $1.8 million in bribes and paybacks skimmed over the course of the programme.

oh yeah and since we fund almost the entire UN that will mean that Iraq will end up with even more US dollars than they have already received.

the UN should pay for what they did to the Iraqi people, there is no doubt about that. but is there any way to sue the UN can pay without involving more of our money?

    Kurt:
Yep. Deduct the penalty from the next dues payment.

Im all for it, at the least it will give the UN a black eye. We might actually snag some big names in a court case like this(think Kofi Annan)coffin of the UN, and like Brian said, deduct that from what we have to pay into the UN.

what i meant to say was

“Im all for it, at the least it will give the UN a black eye. We might actually snag some big names in a court case like this(think Kofi Annan) where there is a discovery process. Id pay to put another nail in the coffin of the UN, and like Brian said, deduct that from what we have to pay into the UN, so we are not actually paying for it.”

Will the truth come out? Who are going to be the scapegoats?

This was a complete fraud from it’s inception to the end. I really want to know who played the media and created the atmosphere to make such a program seem necessary.
This program was a for profit deal made with members of the American government, Saddam, euros and other assorted bastards when the paper was written. Those that participated in its generation and oversight used the suffering of the Iraqi population to line their pockets, knowing full well that while saddam was getting another gold toilet to shit in, too little of the fund was getting to the street to help the subjugated citizens of Iraq.

Maybe the evidence presented by the Iraqis will expose more of the players.
This was hatched during the Klinton administration, that says all you need to know.

madam albright any comments you fucking hag?

you’re absolutely right. give them 24 hours notice to get their marxists asses outa our country. and never give them another cent. turn the building into condo’s. at least we’d get a little back from all the money we’ve wasted on that place.

The UN is rag tag drain on the American taxpayer. We should get out and form a new league of democratic nations. In the interim I would like to watch how this unfolds in order to count the “Rats” involved, including that worthless bastard, Kofi Anan, who in my opinion is the worst UN leader ever.
    Watch em scatter…

Fuck the UN. Tear it down and put up another still-more-than-gas Starbucks coffee place.

  14. TBinSTL (just typical)

Nah, turn it into a housing project like in “Heavy Metal”….
I was surprised to see that Total/Fina/Elf was getting in on the redevelopement in Iraq. I thought they were among the worst offenders in cheating the Oil for Food program
…and a big part of the French Govt. opposition to our work there.

Good. I’d like to see the list of ratfinks that participated in that corrupt program and expose their activities for all the world to see. Any current members of the UN who participated, should be expelled from US soil post haste.

Send the UN to Geneva. We don’t need them anymore. Give the US taxpayers a rebate for all the money that we have wasted on that useless, feckless body of slimeballs at the UN.

Then gut the place and fumigate it. Turn it into a public housing project or just burn it down.
