Sleeping Pilots Overshot Airport by 359 Miles

(FOX)

An Air India flight soared past its Mumbai destination on June 4 as its pilots allegedly dozed off in the cockpit, The Times of India reported Thursday. The napping pilots flew 359 miles past the airport and were still at cruising altitude when nervous air traffic controllers woke them up.

The flight, which was on autopilot flying toward Mumbai, had about 100 passengers on board.

“The plane took off from Dubai at 1:35 a.m. Indian Standard Time and then from Jaipur at 7 a.m. After operating an overnight flight, fatigue levels peak, and so the pilots dozed off after taking off from Jaipur,” an unidentified source told The Times of India.

Air India officials vehemently denied the report, saying the plane lost radio contact with air traffic control for some time, and only flew 14 miles off course.

“We emphatically deny the report. No such incident took place. We’ve checked our records,” Jitender Bhargava, Air India’s director for public relations, told The Times.

Some pilots and air traffic controllers argue Air India is trying to cover up for the pilots’ mistake.

“There is a strict procedure which is followed during a radio communications failure whereby the aircraft should have descended to a holding point. Instead, it flew over Mumbai,” a check pilot told The Times of India. “Also, every flight has an expected time of arrival [ETA], so why did it not begin its descent even after crossing its ETA?”

Rush Limbaugh said something today that struck me as pretty prolific, yet simple, when you think about how people in this country view the way things are with our government … and the way they are actually supposed to be (how the founding fathers intended it when they wrote the U.S. Constitution).

What he said was the Constitution wasn’t really written to [give] “We the people rights” … It was written to point out exactly what [rights] the government does and doesn’t have … “We the people” should have our rights, as intended by our founding fathers, who took their cue from “The Creator” … How upside down and inside out things have become in this country.

It says a whole lot of something when the top stories of the last two weeks have been:

1) Congress’s continuing oppression of domestic oil and gas production and refining in this country, and their only solution seems to be do nothing … except tac on more taxes

2) When the top three stories in this country in two weeks involve the SCOTUS … and their split rulings on three extremely important issues in this country … Terrorist prisoners (GIVING rights to the emeny) … The Death Penalty for Child Rapists … and Citizen Gun Ownership Rights.

3) and in noting that, the power one unelected man seems to hold over this country and the direction it goes.

We were also treated to two outstanding state governors who not only have their heads on straight and right, but could possibly be in the running for Veep on the McCain ticket.

A baby boy had both legs broken by supporters of President Robert Mugabe to punish his father for being an opposition councillor in Zimbabwe.

Blessing Mabhena, aged 11 months, was seized from a bed and flung down with force as his mother, Agnes, hid from the thugs, convinced that they were about to murder her.

She heard one of them say, “Let’s kill the baby”, before Blessing was hurled on to a bare concrete floor.

Blessing, who may never be able to walk properly, was one of the youngest victims of atrocities against the opposition party Movement for Democratic Change in the run-up to last Friday’s sham presidential election. [ ... ]

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — One swing from completing her week’s work, Venus Williams toed the baseline, dribbled the ball, gave it a toss and delivered yet another thunderclap serve at sun-kissed Wimbledon.

The ace bounced off the Court 1 backstop as Williams trotted to the net to bid another foe farewell.

The scoreboard said 127 mph, the fastest women’s serve ever recorded at Wimbledon. [ ... ]
