It was at THIS VERY MOMENT, when the SECOND plane hit, not the first, that we were forever changed.

I often think about his very moment because I remember sitting there watching live the first tower with the gaping hole and the billowing smoke, and people were saying/asking was it an airplane? A helicopter, this must be some horrible accident…
Some speculated it may be a terrorist act, but when the second plane hit…all doubt was removed as to what was going on.
I remember wondering if they had biological or chemical agents on the planes and if they smoke would be carrying death throughout the city.
People were jumping. Dozens, scores, only God knows how many…

I remember thinking that tens of thousands of people worked in those towers. I remember that fact because I had once heard long ago that there could be 50,000 people in those buildings on a given day, and I lived on Kauai when I learned that. The population of Kauai back then in the 70’s was 35,000. I thought, wow, everybody on this island could fit in there.

I remember they had no idea how many people were in the buildings when they collapsed, how many people were directly below. They had no idea what the death toll might end up being.
I kept thinking 50,000 people could be dead.

I remember thinking that it was when the SECOND TOWER was hit, that our country would never be the same. Because then we KNEW…we KNEW that it was deliberate.

After watching this, I realized that I am not healed. That means that more than likely, most other Americans are not healed of this. We may never be. This wound is deep.

We are approaching the 7-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and since then Islamic jihadists have not been able to inflict another terrorist attack on American soil. And U.S. troops deserve a lot of praise for this fact. Our troops have al-Qaeda broken into pieces, and their affiliated terrorist groups largely decimated. This is the direct result of our troops’ missions in Iraq & Afghanistan, and around the world (in conjunction with the dilligent work of law enforcement and intelligence agencies).
So please realize that while you are sitting at your chair reading this email, a young man or woman is over in Iraq or Afghanistan, enduring temperatures over 115 degrees, and fighting violent radical jihadists who want to see you and I dead, and our society and values destroyed.
