Paris Mayor Bernard Delanoe blamed “organised gangs” on Saturday for clashes overnight near the Eiffel Tower between police and high school students celebrating the end of their final exams.

Twenty-nine people were arrested, and 22 kept in custody, after the unrest in the Champ de Mars park in the well-to-do Seventh District that pitted police firing tear gas against “250 to 300 youths”.

About a dozen neighbourhood shops were damaged, and two police officers slightly injured, said Alain Gardere, who is in charge of neighbourhood policing.

“I most firmly condemn the violence overnight that was carried out by organised gangs around the Champ de Mars where many young people had peacefully gathered after their baccalaureate exams,” Delanoe said.

“Such actions of violence must be punished with the greatest severity,” added the Socialist mayor of the French capital.

The unrest broke out on the eve of the Fete de la Musique, an all-night summer solstice party that pulls big crowds onto Parisian streets for more than 500 open-air concerts.

Gardere pointed a finger at “troublemakers” mingling among the 4,000 to 7,000 high school graduates on the Champ de Mars’ sprawling grass terrace who began hurling bottles at the police.

Some 30 police officers were seen by an AFP reporter charging the youths with tear gas. Some youths then tried to set fire to rubbish bins and trees, before they were pushed back.

“Photos were taken and investigations will be diligent,” said Gardere.

He alleged that many of the perpetrators had come from suburbs around Paris — districts best known for rough public housing projects, high unemployment and large immigrant populations.

“These young people had faces concealed with headscarves and hoods,” he said.

Lets see; um they were Jewish, no no, Jews do not traditionally wear head scarves and cover their faces. Ah, how ’bout Buddists. No, not the type of thing they would wear if in fact they did riot in France. Not to many Buddists in France. Maybe they were Hindu? No, can’t see them doing that. Oh ya, must be the Christians right? No the Christians if so inclined to riot would have done it out in the open.
Oh, silly me; I know now. Must be the boys from the religion of peace. Islamic thugs who cover their faces and wear head covering. Yup, the religion of peace stikes again.
Death to Islam, the scourge of the world! :gun:

this video doesn’t relate the last incidents, (there isn’t yet a video report, may-be we’ll get a private video in the next days), but you can watch how the kind of “gangs” are hiding their face with a few pics

Marc, your wrong, it’s not a “religious” incident, it’s hooliganism

the youngs were drunk about one o’Clock, the police ask them to move, some 200 to 300 started to attack the police and loot the store : vandalism from the ghettos gangs !

My sister just returned Thursday from France on a trip with her daughter’s french class. She saw an attack on a young teen girl by six men, which ended with the father being beaten bloody while defending his daughter. She also saw a man knock a woman off her feet so he could steal her infant from her stroller; he was stopped by the mother.

It’s modern french culture on display for the youth of America.

your question should be ‘I still wonder WHY you keep coming to france’.

my mom went to France, she loved it. and I dont have a problem with French people. Just the goofy towel heads running loose over there.

do you disagree with the perception we have on that subject? curious about your opinion. do you ever see anything like that going on or no?

  7. franchie

“How” or “why” is a question of nuance that I am getting to appreciate along my apprenticement “over there”

“Just the goofy towel heads running loose over there”

what’s your problem ? I am not lost at all, I know perfectly why I still run over there, I am learning a lot about HUMANITY, that I not in use to watch over “here”

“do you disagree with the perception we have on that subject? ”

not at all, I also understand that I am perceived as “odd”, the problem is, IF I don’t play that “oddy” part, I would have more difficulties to enter in contact with many persons, do ya remember how it was last year for a French “over there” ?

    I measure the path that I have made, week after week ;

do you have an objection that I make some animation ?

or your just want to purr alone among your circle with no open view on the outside perception ?

wow you took every single thing i said the wrong way and didnt actually answer one question i asked you or point i made.

im talking about the muslims running around not you.

and do you disagree with the perception we have, meaning do you understand why we fear that Europe is at risk of being overrun by jihadists.

it was probably the most civilized way anyone on this site has ever talked to you and i still get some goofy defensive comment back. ill know better next time

sorry Kurt, Goofy induced me wrong

as far as your “very” question, I dont’t think so for France, Germany seems to get awake… the Spanishes and the Italians aren’t also so “tolerant”, the polishs and Tcheki have no immigrants but, I am not sure for the Brits, the Dutchs, that are “open” societies” for businesses and working immigration !Their lawers seems biased !

Anywayway, it’ll take the time that our Police and lawers get in job again.

The Frenchs have always had a surviving instinct !

  10. franchie

    I ment “no” tolerant

Its cool. just a little bit ‘lost in translation’ as they say

overrun may have been the wrong word to use. maybe more like too many muslims running around with zero respect for your country and nothing better to do than riot and cause trouble. maybe Sarkozy will kick them all out
