And what would happen .. if they just "legalized" the drug trade? This is nonsense .. this war on drugs. It is an absolute overwhelming fact that humans have been altering thier "consciouness" since the time began, with what ever substance they could get thier hands on. (its human nature) And seeing with all the penalties in place and all the negative "ramifications" this is still a GAZZILION dollar "industry" tells me that people are not going to deny thier nature under any circumstances.

75% of humans can use substances and not become addicts or sustain lifestyle damaging effects. Doubt? How many full blown alcohlics do you know vs. how many occasional drinkers?

Prohibition was GREAT wasnt it? It created Organized Crime as we know it today. What impact would legalization have on a global level?

jsut to add to what trey said, since afghanistan is predocuing 90% of the world opium/herion and the profits are obviously not aiding the nation of Afghanistan why not try and incoorperate the opium production in the national exports.Since much of the world has a dewindling supply and access the medical opiates there's without a dooult that there is a market for the legal Afghan opiates.
However, in a country such as Afghanistan with it deep routed corruption, lack of developement, and lenghthy history of violence coupled with an active insurgancy the possibility of an small local Afgans selling their crops to the government is unlikely, since the drug trafferics would undoubltedly pay more for the crop then the Afgan government can.
Lastly, I argee witht the US's decision to continue fighting the Taliban first and corruption/drugs second. Although drugs and courruption may be hindering the developement of the Aghan nation, by leaving a rebel group such as the Taliban with any breathong room inside of Afghanistan would result in Aghanistan becoming the Columbia of the Middle East (if it not there already) but by having unrestrained drug preoduction added to rebellion, Aghanistan and the US would be wise to keep pushing forward towards the Pakistan border and kill both snakes in one movement. :gun: :gun: :gun:
