WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House says President Bush is planning to lift an executive ban on offshore oil drilling.
In a Rose Garden statement on Monday, the president plans to lift the ban. But by itself, the move will not lead to more drilling off America’s coastline.

Congress must still lift its own legislative ban before offshore drilling can happen.

White House press secretary Dana Perino says Bush is acting now in hopes of spurring Congress to act. So far, lawmakers have shown no interest in doing so.

I can hear it now… “Bush cozies up to his oil buddies”, etc.

How about “Bush gets tired of using oil from other countries”? I know I am.

Good for President Bush. This will force the democrat congress to do more then public hearings in which they have proved themselves to be pandering to environmentalists.Come November if the democrats have done nothing it will spell doom for them in the election.

  5. Kurt(the infidel)

time to show your hand democrats. lets see if you will continue to defy the will of the people.

    Thank you President Bush.

How long ’til McLame says this is “very disappointing”….only slightly tic.

  7. Marc

Well it is about damn time, now if the rest of Congress will get off their asses and tell the Enviro-Nazis to piss off then we might have something.

McCain: Listen my friends this is not a good ideal! Now Cap & Trade will provide all the energy we need, My friends.

  9. A. S. Wise-VA (America, FUCK YEAH!!!)

Obama: “Duh, this represents the “failed policies of the past,” we cannot drill ourselves out of this problem! Americans need to know that they cannot enjoy the prosperous lifestyles they enjoy, and the world will just say thats alright.”

Way to go, Dubya! We demand Congress send the same message, but given the idiocy of the Pelosi government, I have little hope.

You’ve been handed the ball, oil companies, now run it into the end zone!

  10. SOC

Now Impeach Pelosi and Reid and we have a ball game…

Before Jimmy Carter gets his gums flapping, allow me to say to him: SHUT THE FUCK UP AND GO AWAY!

    Now lift it everywhere else.
Drill more. We still need to ween ourself off foreign oil big time. Like no shit, dah?!
    It is a start.

Did anyone else notice this AP story quotes Dana Perino stating “Bush is acting now in hopes of spurring Congress to act”, and then the article goes on to state that lawmakers are showing no interest in lifting the ban??

This makes it seem slike the White House said that, when we know the democrats are the ones against lifting the ban, the Republicans are all for it, as are a good number of Democrats, but the Dem leadership will not allow it to come to the floor.

Another typical MSM liberal anti-American/capitalism AP misleading statement

  15. Happyone

It was purely symbolic, contrary to what Harry Reid said: Congress has to act for anything to happen. But it was a good gesture. Finally!

  16. Kurt(the infidel)

actually it wasnt just symbolic. the President has to ok it as well. just like if congress passes a bill the President doesnt like he can veto it.

hopefully these peckerheads will go along with the plan. but 2 minutes after the President was done talking Obama weighed in and said he does not agree with the President and is against it. Of course!

  17. TBinSTL (just typical)

Obamby needs to have his dick nailed to the tree over this. If Mac wants to win he better jump into this with both feet. BHO has commited himself and this could be the winning issue for our side. All our Legislative candidates better jump on it too and be loud about it.

  18. dadeo

Now the dims are feverishly trying to create new and improved word vomit to continue their do-nothing stance on this and virtually every other issue.

  19. sully

The Dhimmi ‘game plan’ is to make it to November when they think they get a Dhimmi POTUS and/or a veto proof majority in Congress. It really is that simple.
Hope not but this drilling shit may be too little too late.
We’re still not hearing enough from the Repubs in Congress to suit me. They should have been screaming bloody murder since 1/07.

  20. Gramps

Neither the house or Senate has any reason to lift the ban, as they apparently use tax dollars for themselves.

Lifted from elsewhere on the net:

“Leased Cargate: It appears that the REAL reason that our hard-working drones in Congress don’t give a fat baby’s butt about the price WE pay for gas is because THEY passed legislation allowing THEM to lease any car they want and pass the gas, maintenance, and insurance costs to us. How nice. Apparently, this program was NOT included in that “swamp of corruption” that Red Nanny Pee-Lousy was going to drain.”

Nancy Pelosi thinks gas costs $2.56/gallon. Not kidding. In her own words.
