July 2nd, 2008 at 6:30 pmThese gas turbines put out close to 50MegaWatts each, and I noticed waste heat boilers that produce steam to drive steam turbine generator sets as well, or the steam is used to heat the oil in the “topping” plant next door, thus a co-gen system.
Do not be confused between a fully integrated refinery and a topping plant. All that a topping plant is is basic crude distillation into fractions. You only need a heater, a few heat exchangers a couple of pumps and a distillation column. No rocket science and basic early twentieth century process technology.
