i wasn’t over in iraq for the invasion so i can’t comment on the realities of the events described but what i can comment on is all my friends who were/are marines. the depth to which “generation kill” went to make every serving member of the marines (and i’m sure they would have done the same to the army/air force if they had the chance) a gay baiting, racist, psychopath individual was pretty amazing. hollywood should be proud of itself, they have really outdone themselves this time. the only good thing out of this is the fact that my wife was so thoroughly disgutsted by this (and she was fairly apolitical until the last year or so) that she can’t wait to make her liberal friends watch this show because she believes even they will be able to see the unreal hatred with which the marines are depicted in general. she had tears in her eyes so i’m almost happy with this show because hopefully others will realize how slanted hollywood (and most of the rest of the media) is with its hatred of almost all things american and all of our armed forces. this was pathetic even by hollywood’s standards…

Thank you for your service. I have not watched Generation Kill but for all the reasons you stated that is why I stay away from most of the productions out there. They are way too anti-troop and anti-American for me to watch. Just watching what goes on in the regular news and general media makes me sick most days as it is. I have resolved myself to just wait for Pat’s documentary to come out.

I’m listening to the show now, I was out and couldn’t be here for the live broadcast and chat room. I missed you all but I’m really enjoying the show now…..

    Hi TBinSTL (just typical)

There were lots of people in the chat room. I had a hard time reading all the comments and listening to the show. I know I lost track of what was being said sometimes.

It was another great show. It always goes too fast.

Thanks to everyone who listened and called in. For whatever reason, I really thought tonight’s show was one of our best. The topics were revealing about a lot of issues about the war and the military.

 I’m so dumb. I missed it again. I’ll have to get it on the rebound.

For a detailed analysis of some of the factual errors in the book ( which have been reproduced in the mini series) read this from Lt.Col.Michael Shoup

    http://commentaryongenerationkill.blogspot.com/

While Sgt. Daniel “Casey Kasem” Griego also identified a long list of inaccuracies, and has spent the better part of four years trying to set the record straight, he did attend the premiere screening and stated aside from the fact there were plenty of inaccuracies, he mostly liked the film.

Sgt Griego’s detailed list of inaccuracies can be found here: http://coinside.blogspot.com/2006/05/generation-kill-full-rebuttal.html

    John -

The song at the start of the show is Foo Fighters “Down by the River”

    Stiggy -

I completely concur with your analysis of Generation kill.

Has anybody seen that cocksucker Obama is already using the deaths of the 9 soldiers in Afghanistan. Evidently visiting Iraq once and never given the Magic Negro an level of insight that us poor stupid conservatives can’t understand.

Thanks for letting me in Pat… great show… I wasn’t able to say it because I didn’t get the chance but I thought you would be interested to hear that a friend of mine recently told me that they are running Boots and utes PT outside the wire in Ramadi with the guidon and everything. He swore he wasn’t lying.

    Pretty fucking unbelievable.

I’m really enjoying this a lot. I’m an hour through it and it’s such a relief to hear some straight shit about GK. It sounds like it turned out to be what they were trying to turn YA into. Thank God that Pat stood his ground.

Just comment on Gen Kill, FUBAHK.
Fucked Up Beyond All Hollywood Knowledge.
The story was somewhat accurate up to the point where the racism took place in the tent prior to H+4.
Fist off, I’m an Army guy. I did breach with the 7th (UK) Armoured Division, Desert Rats in Gulf War I (GWI).
Busting on each others percieved racial stereotypes is part of stress relief in stressful times. Gen K made it seem like an everyday occurence. This is false. Just another perception the MSM puts forth to distort the bravery and humanity of Warriors who free the world for liberty. They view providers of freedom as haters of people of color. Shame on them.

The breach filming was accurate and telling. Probably the only part they got right. It was a high stress time and many voices were raised in stress and fear and they all were coming over the radio. Visibility was practility nil. (The large Challenger British Tanks rolling right next to me led to dust giving me no vis and the noise of the diesel engine gave me no sound recognition) sound was impossible.

I object most to the portrayal of the Sergeant Major, a position I built my career upon achieving. Enlisted men hate the Smaj. He enforces rules that are arcane and lead to discomfort. The story should have told the reality that a gas mask properly fitted will save your life. Facial hair will not allow said mask to fit properly and you will die.
We see the Smaj enforcing rules but not the result of those rules. HBO made the “TOP SERGEANT” out to be a buffoon and a cartoon character.
Without the ranking enlisted man enforcing rules you would have the movie M*A*S*H. This is real life, enlisted men save enlisted men’s live’s.
The overarching story is good and needs to be told. We free’d 27 million people. At this point though the story is of racist, homophobic mercenaries invading a country ready to welcome our arrival (as the 30 surrendering Iraquis’ at the end portends) and our prejudging of their culture as moral equivalency, or worse, moral hypocrisy.

What happened here is a tale of freedom and liberty. These words carry little water in todays MSM, but they are watch words that true Americans covet and volunteer to protect.

In the end HBO will tarnish troops and fog the truth of this great endeavor. What little reality seeps out will be welcomed. Unfortunately though “little” is the operative word here.

BASH - I’m praying for you. Thanks for sharing your dark side experience. Now I know specifically how to pray for you. I do know you have so many people and friends praying for and loving you.

    God Bless you BASH.

I listened to the show again tonight. It really was one of the best.

Pat, your best two topics were when you were talking to Sgt. Welsh about how there has been a “Liberalization of the Military” and also how you both discussed how based on perspectives (in another reality, which is war) there are decisions that are made that would not make sense unless you were there to experience what led up to the decisions or actions taken. Especially when it comes to taking a life be it of a child, women, old ladies, retarded persons, etc. But those things happen to protect others from harm. It is really sad that the enemy uses their own people in such ways that they need killing.

That is exactly why there should not be embeded media as was discussed as well.

Sgt. Welsh’s laugh is contagious. You guys did a great job on that show. The callers kept things moving too.

There was so much covered I had to listen to it a second time.

Bash, we hear you. I know you will fill us in on the rest of the dark place. :gun: :gun: :gun: :gun:
