Favre Exclusively Interviewed By Greta - With Video

This was a great interview. You’re probably sick of me telling you about how much of an NFL fan I am, not a Packer Fan, sorry, Niner fans cannot be Packer fans, its an axiom.
But I am an NFL fan.
And I love great players.
Brett Favre is one of those great players that I truly, truly have enjoyed watching play from DAY 1 at Green Bay. As a Niner fan, I dreaded the thought of a playoff or NFC Championship game at Lambeau against Favre.
Favre is the KING of Lambeau Field in the Winter. Hell, King of Lambeau period.
Now he’s been having second thoughts about retirement, and after his retirement speech earlier this year, who the hell didn’t figure that there was better than a 50/50 chance Brett would change his mind.
Nobody can fault him for that. He addresses that in this interview.
This is a great interview. Brett Favre, as a man, is one of those people you can truly respect. And I mean that.
He also happens to be one of the greatest Quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, no question.
But on June 20th he had a conversation with the Packers, and they said Brett Favre playing for the Packers this year was not an option, but they also said they can’t see him playing for anybody else.
Rock and a hard place.
I don’t give a shit WHO they promised the slot to, and I say this purely as an NFL fan, not as a Niner/Raiders fan because I don’t want my teams to ever have to play Favre at Lambeau again if possible, but I watched him last year and he hasn’t slipped at all. He’s better than 90% of the current starting quarterbacks in the league today, and on any given Sunday, he could probably be the best in the league that day.
So, though it hurts to say this, I’m going to say it anyway:
What the fuck is wrong with the Green Bay Packers? Put the boy back on the roster, because he is probably the best man for the job (at the very least let him compete for the slot), and because the Green Bay Packers OWE Brett Favre a debt they can never repay…
Go Niners. Go Raiders. Go Favre.
Hey…Favre in SF? Nah…it would be sacreligious for him to go to any other NFC team if he did play again, and not in Green Bay.
Shit, we’ll take him in Oakland in a fukn heartbeat.
Here’s Greta’s interview:

I never thought this would become the issue it has become.I can honestly say that I thought he retired 4 good.If he wants 2 come back, grant him his request. He played 100% every game of his career. So he changed his mind, big deal,he’s only human. If the Packers want him as a back-up QB that is a joke.”Protecting his legacy”—LOL…sorry, but as a Packer fan 4 life from WI. he has earned the right to do as he wishes as a player in the NFL.Is Rogers any good?maybe he is,but he can’t hold a candle to Favre, and everyone knows it.If they won’t let him start in GB,then trade him,he’s worth his weight in gold.Let the guy play for pete’s sake. What is the Pack worried about……oh yeah,I forgot..it’s Brett Favre!!! -LET HIM PLAY! -nuff said.
July 14th, 2008 at 10:46 pmI have one comment…. if the Packers aren’t gonna play him, the let him free! I’m a life long Packer Fan, but it’s not fair to Brett to hang on to him. Let him go, and see who if anyone picks him up. Are they afraid to face playing against him on Sunday?
Aloha, Bonnie
July 14th, 2008 at 10:54 pmYou can’t give a player as great as Favre away for free. The GM would be hung out to dry.
July 15th, 2008 at 1:15 amAs a Packer fan, I say trade him.
July 15th, 2008 at 4:18 amFavre has burned the bridges with the Packers.
I think he is slipping, let him go to another team, bring on Aaron.
The Packers are insane if they dont take him back. If they dont want him, trade him to the Vikings and we’ll see how much football life he’s got left in him
July 15th, 2008 at 6:27 amWhile I do respect Brett, quite honestly he sounded like a whining little kid during the interview. If you must come back, come back to the Pack in a back up/mentor role for Arron. If Arron fails or gets hurt, I’m sure the fans would love to see #4 come off the bench and save the day.
My advice to Brett: Retire. You are healthy and I want you to stay that way. Enjoy the time with your family. Seeing Brett play in another uniform would be as degrading as it was seeing Johnny U in a Chargers’ uniform and Joe Willie in a Rams’ uniform. It just wasn’t right.
July 15th, 2008 at 7:10 amfirst of all, thanks for posting this, my DVR didn’t record the show last night and i was Enraged when I couldn’t find it on any website. ESPN has been showing that last clip which doesn’t explain anything. Good comments too.
Favre is so clear at the beginning: he wants to play in Green Bay. I’m a Packers fan, first and foremost- above any individual player. Holmgren, White, whoever, they moved on and so did I. Favre would be the same to me, except for one thing: Rodgers. Favre is better than Rodgers. He’s proven that. With Favre behind center last year they were one score away from the Superbowl. With exactly the same team, except Rodgers at Qb- who knows?
Even if Favre were exactly as good as Rodgers- its better to have two! Packers fans have forgotten that the QB getting injured is a possibility, thanks to, oh yeah, B. Favre- but A Rodg so far appears to be made of glass, and I don’t really relish the prospect of starting Brohm in our playoff run.
It does no harm to bring Favre back. People worry about Rodgers leaving- so what- any hypotheticals about how good Rodgers is or how good the young packers will be in 2 or 3 years are too conclusory to carry weight.
Thompson talks about treating every player equally. Thats a classic mistake– they should treat every player fairly- but not every player is equal. You’re going to treat a 17 year veteran hall of famer the same as an untested 4th year rookie? No. Treat them both fairly- but its not fair to either to treat them like they’re identical.
Finally- Favre apparently goes into detail in the the next half of the interview about how badly he wanted them to get Randy Moss. I don’t think enough attention has been paid to this: RANDY MOSS WAS GOD LAST YEAR. TT just blows of the critics, saying Moss really wouldn’t have come here, but Favre says he talked to Moss and he said he would have played here for less money then in New England. Now, maybe Moss lied to Favre, but when Brett gives an interview, looks the camera in the eye- I beleive him. TT has done a decent job building the young packers, but he isn’t perfect- he’s missed the boat bigtime a few times- First on Moss, and Second on how he’s treating Favre.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:16 amI can’t believe the Brett Favre sympathy here.
1) Favre has screwed with the Packers minds for the past 4-5 years now. His whole “Will I retire?” fiasco was absolutely sickening. The Packers don’t owe him a thing, and neither does his fans.
2) The Packers have not only already invested in their future QB with Rogers, but they invested in a future backup plan as well with Brohm. Favre was constantly given chances to come back before his tearful retirement. Once he retired, the Packers were forced to move on by using 2 draft picks on QBs in this draft. The Packers have moved on.
3) Favre wants to change his mind and come back after all of that? Sure, but the Packers moved on already for the future. Rogers has waited his turn patiently, and deserves a chance to prove himself. This isn’t about how the team performs this year, its simply about what is best for the franchise? Having a 40 year old QB start for one more year, or have the possible QB of the future finally get a chance to prove himself? Fact is, Packers are making the correct choice.
4) Again, what’s best for the Packers organization? To release Favre, or to trade him? Again, the Packers don’t owe him a thing, its no longer what’s “best for Favre”. He decided to come back and tarnish his retirement, that’s his problem. If they can’t find a trade partner, then he is going to be a backup. It was his choice to tarnish his reputation, the Packers don’t have to bail him out.
Imagine a manager for a company that has been working there for 50 years retires at the age of 65. A younger person that has worked under him for a while replaced him, and is doing a fine job. The older manager decides to change his mind and work for another year. Should the company feel forced to put him back at his old job?
