ROSH HANIKRA, Israel – Lebanese militant Samir Kantar and four other prisoners have crossed into a buffer zone between Lebanon and Israel.
Their release is part of a dramatic prisoner swap that also involved the return of 2 dead Israeli soldiers to the Jewish state.
Kantar has been held by Israel for 29 years. He was convicted of 1 of the grisliest attacks in Israeli history – shooting a man in front of his 4-year-old daughter, and then killing the girl by crushing her skull.
The girl’s 2-year-old sister was accidentally smothered by her mother, who kept her hand over the toddler’s mouth to stifle her cries while they hid in a closet.
