I really am so very sick and tired of Republicans, especially if they are from a historical western ‘oil state’, such as Texas, being branded as “a friend to big oil companies” whenever the subject of this nation’s energy policy, or lack thereof, comes up, in order to somehow discredit them and what they have to say. Yet, the democrats are never questioned or discredited for being butt-buds with the environmental groups and their lawyer-lobby when they spout their abstract and elusive answers to the energy problem in this country.

All you are hearing from the democrats on the matter is “who is getting paid … who is making big profits” … Not a word on upping the supply in order to bring down the price … for the consumers. For us … you know, the people THEY work for … It’s NOT the other way around. We don’t work for them. they are supposed to be working for us. The Elected Class needs to be dragged down this ’superior spiral staircase’ they have built for themselevs above us … their cement skulls banging heavily off every step on the way down.

If you have a cancer you seek the drugs and protocols we have available and know have a certain success rate … No, ‘we gotta WAIT for a miracle cure’ bullshit???

There is NO alternative energy source at the ready for the foreseeable future … get a friggin’ grip already. This is the height of madness!

If you’re hungry, you eat! If you are starving, and you make NO effort to go where the [food] is … you die. As we will do economically … and THAT is probably what the democrats are hoping. You DON’T have Americans on a ’sensible and healthy diet’ in currently ‘conserving gas’ … No, what you have are Americans who have become forced anorexics and are refusing to purchase anymore than is absolutely necessary to continue to exist and survive.

Sen. John Cornyn Says It Is Time to get serious about energy

(Sen. John Cornyn)

After reading John Hinderaker’s post on Friday about lack of Democratic leadership on energy, I can report that the view looks about the same from my Senate office. Nancy Pelosi promised an effective new energy plan before the 2006 election – that’s about 809 days ago – and we’re still waiting. They’re now postponing votes because some Democrats fear reality has finally set in – and Congress may actually approve more domestic exploration for new energy.

We’ve put ourselves in an irrational box. We’ve put 85 percent of our prime energy exploration lands off-limits. The U.S. is the only country in the world that refuses to develop its own natural resources. With a growing worldwide demand for energy, we’re willing to enrich foreign governments – some of which wish us harm – instead of helping ourselves.

The U.S. is well on the way toward transitioning away from over-reliance on fossil fuels. I’m for pursuing every source of energy out there – solar, nuclear, clean coal, wind, biofuels, hydrogen, shale. We need it all. But we’ve built up an infrastructure over 100 years that must be relied upon as we make the change to renewable sources. Congress has to get out of the way and allow the U.S. to develop its resources for that infrastructure – or we’re headed towards economic catastrophe.

As John notes, a number of Democratic officeholders have heard from their constituents, and they want to vote to expand energy exploration. But their leadership is making sure they cannot. You can feel the Democratic solidarity on this fragmenting. One of two scenarios is likely. Either the leadership wakes up and allows expanded development – in Alaska, outer continental shelf, shale – or I suspect Republicans are going to do a great deal better in this fall’s elections than most pundits now assume.

I’m staging an “Energy Independence Days” discussion this week on my Web site. I will be joined by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Speaker Newt Gingrich and others who see clearly the need to produce more domestic energy and reduce our reliance on foreign sources. You know I am a long time and enthusiastic Power Line fan, and it’s an honor to communicate with your readers. I hope many of you will join me at JohnCornyn.com this coming week, and share your thoughts on our energy problem.

Democrats Sucking Wind on Energy Policy

The Democrats had vowed to take up energy policy after the 4th of July recess, but now they have scrubbed all plans to bring energy legislation to the floor of the House. Why? In the words of The Hill, they are “in a bind” because they fear that any effort on their part to offer energy legislation would be met by Republican amendments to permit domestic drilling for oil and gas.

This would force Democratic Congressmen to take a position on whether they want to do something serious to bring down the cost of gasoline, as an overwhelming majority of Americans want. The Democrats, amazing as it may seem, are locked into a blind, ideologically-driven opposition to doing what is necessary to meet America’s energy needs. The Hill quotes one Democratic aide:

“Right now, our strategy on gas prices is ‘Drive small cars and wait for the wind,’”
The Democrats know that they risk the wrath of the voters if they continue to force gasoline prices higher and higher:

Further complicating matters for Democrats is the growing number of pro-drilling Democrats who are becoming increasingly worried that voters might throw them in with their anti-drilling leadership.
One pro-drilling Democrat predicted that the backlash against Congress for gas prices could rival the outrage voters felt about the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal.

I’ve got news for the Dems: the voters care about gas prices a whole lot more than they ever cared about Jack Abramoff.
