I’m back after having spent most of yesterday offline attending to other business. I see it was quite the video links festival on the comments thread here. Some really good stuff, and by clicking the first link from Chuck, the one about the second American Revolution, and checking out the “related” videos on the sidebar, it was interesting to see how many whack-job revolutionary, conspiracy theory, blah blah Big Brother blah blah, dumb-ass groups and ideas there are out there. And we wonder why the electorate seems so out of touch with the most important political realities of our times. It’s not because people don’t hear anything about these issues, it’s because they’re fed like this from the mainstream ( msm news, schools, family conversation ) to the fringe. Across the span crap, dishonesty and spin are the primary diet of the American public when it comes to social and political issues. Why? It’s called the residual fallout of Marxism. There are other reasons, but that’s at the heart of it. The whole topic is a book, really.

Oh, and the Russia/Georgia Ticker went fallow yesterday, back up and running today.

Georgia.

Interesting how a key U.S. ally was allowed to simply fall, how we weren’t more on top of that situation, and how the MSM isn’t tracking it all too very hard. The consequences of what’s happening are immense for America, and Russia’s attack portends much more than people seem to realize.

Something needs to be done quickly to end the ongoing rampage, to get the Russians to honor the peace treaty and leave. NATO troops should probably be deployed in Georgia, to stop the ongoing deconstruction of Georgia’s military and civil institutions. It’s time for a real showdown.

Oh yeah, not gonna happen, given this situation.

The Slipknot Killing

It’s been a few years. Guess it was time for this issue to resurface.

The New York Times has published an Op-Ed piece by former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev taking the position that Russia did not purposefully provoke Georgia into attacking S. Ossetia, but was merely a defender of the innocent…I wonder who approached who about writing and publishing the piece. The Times offers no explanation.

Roof falls in on European Parliament

The European Parliament will move its opening session to Brussels from its Strasbourg headquarters because part of the debating chamber’s ceiling has collapsed, a parliament spokesman said today.

The move should not prove too disruptive to MEPs, who meet just four days a month in Strasbourg and spend the rest of their working time in Brussels, an expensive split that has drawn much negative press over the years.

Parliament was forced to shift the first session in September after around 200 square metres of material weighing several tonnes fell to the floor of the Strasbourg building on August 7th when part of the system that holds the ceiling in place broke.

After a full but imperfect day of work, one thing remains certain. It was a full day of work. So just keep drinkin’ or go talk to your wife and kids.
